Oil Change at Dealer

Do all Inifiniti Dealers charge the same rate? Oil change is $60 + tax at Agincourt. This seems expensive for regular oil. Also, do they have synthetics? Oddly, Nissan oil changes are $50 ($10 less). What difference does it make whether the oil change is for a Maxima or a G35?

The Mazda dealership let my brother bring his own oil (Mobil 1 synthetic which he purchased at Canadian Tires). The dealer changed the oil and replaced the filter for $20. Total cost works out to $60 but for synthetic. He owns a Mazda3. I am wondering if Infiniti will do the same.

My last oil change was done at a local shop using Motul 8100 synthetic. It cost $100. I didn't really notice any improvements to justify the cost. Therefore, I am considering switching to Mobil 1 if I can get it done for about $60.

BTW, I also own a Miata and oil changes only cost $50 (tax incl) for Amsoil synthetic. It requires a litre less than the G35 (3.5L vs 4.6L). Therefore, I figure the G35 should cost no more than $70 (tax incl) for a synthetic oil change.

I get the Motul 8100 synthetic oil change from Jerry at Yorkville Infiniti for just over $100, very happy with it.

I don't think there is any difference whether you get it changed at Nissan or Infiniti. I think the reason why Infiniti charges more is because they offer more services (like free loaners) and they have a much lower volume so need to charge more to cover the overhead. Oh and the oil change maintenance service usually includes other types of inspections and stuff like lubricating door hinges, check lights, warranty, etc.

Take in whichever oil you want plus the filter, and suggest that you pay $20 for the labour to change it.
That should work out cheaper than paying Infiniti's prices.

You could always go to Nissan for service like this. No problem.
They just can't do warranty work.

I paid $43.29 plus tax = $49.78 for my oil change at the Infiniti dealer here in Halifax. The last two I have done myself however as the dealer wanted $50.00 more for synthetic.
Walmart will replace with Penzoil filter and synthetic oil for $35. plus tax. I don't know what anyone's experience is with this oil or filter is however.

That is a load of malarky that infiniti charge more cause they do more at the oil change (that stuff you mention should always be done by any dealer doing the oil, lube and service).
I always got a free loaner with my choke GMs and my Nissans and they always did all of those other inspections , and once in a while a car wash was thrown in.
You pay more at the infiniti dealer cause it is part of "The Total Ownership Experience"as explained on the back of every Infiniti Brochure.

After saying that I always liked my Nissan products and I am extremely happy with my G35 and I have no complaints with my dealer so far. But, there are certain things that I will get done elsewhere when required on my G.

Yeah, my local Nissan dealership has been awesome to deal with. I go there because my closest Infiniti dealership is a 4 hour drive away.

I just can't imagine playing $100+ for an oil change like Jandc does......synthetic oil or not!!

FWIW...
You don't have to change your oil at the dealers.
As long as its documented & they use approved products, you can get it done at Joe Blow's arround the corner if you want.

Personaly, I am getting mine changed at the dealer. I think it helps to maintain a relationship, for when you need them to go to bat for you.
I bring my own oil (Amsoil) & they supply the filter, I think it's $35 - $40. My dealer has a quick lube bay, no app't req'd. I can drop in on the way home, never had to wait more than 10 min.

GEE35X I'm talking in general - maybe you're one of the lucky ones but in general you will NOT get a free loaner when going to Nissan for a simple oil change - only if you are getting more work done then do they offer it. And when was the last time you got a nice FX35 or G35 as a loaner at Nissan? As I said, Infiniti charges more because of this added service and the lower volume. Whether its fair or not of course you'll get more value for the dollar at Nissan - you pay a premium at Infiniti for the luxury nameplate and subsequent service.

Also I agree that they should do the other inspections and stuff but I was referring to when bringing in your G35 to Nissan - they will generally NOT do any warranty inspections or work.

Canuck - $23 is a steal! I agree $100 seems like a lot for oil changes, however, the Motul stuff costs about $15/litre and not like your regular oil. I'd rather pay and have the dealer change it because for me personally the frustration would outweigh the cost savings.

You are right jandc about the loaner with just the oil change, that is why I said lube ,oil and service. You are also right about me being fortunate to have a good Nissan and Gm dealer, I still have not had much experience with my Infiniti dealer yet (fingers are crossed). Heck if I get work done on my old tow vehicle a 97 GMC Z71, they pick it up at my house leave me a beater loaner and service my truck at the GM dealers 25 miles away and return it at the end of the day (at no extra Charge for pick up or the beater car)
