Those who got coilovers from the states

For those who got coilovers from the states using USPS did they charge you brokerage fee or any other fee at the door? I know UPS and Fedex charges at the door but I never really bought a big item using USPS service so I am not sure if they do the same for big items.

I got mine shipped to niagara falls and then i went down and picked it up... USPS/Canada Post can also charge fee's (rarely but I've been charged by them before) but I doubt it would be anything near what fedex or UPS would charge.

USPS is hit and miss, if the package gets opened at customs you almost always pay duty.

I recently had some suspension parts come in from Japan through DHL and I got charged $22 brokerage lol

You should be ok, but like imperial said, drop shipping to the border is key if you want to avoid any customs bull ****.

UPS/FedEx Ground: Always tax, duty and brokerage. Expect to pay around 30% more at your door. If you have time, you could also clear your own package and save on the brokerage. Google it, but I much prefer other methods listed below.

UPS/FedEx Priority (Overnight/3 day): More expensive upfront but brokerage is included. Tax and duty still applies. This method usually ends up costing the same as ground services when everything is added up.

USPS: Depending on the size/value of the package. Big items will almost always get inspected and taxed. Also include a $8.50 Canada Post brokerage fee. This is much cheaper than courier, but slower too. Always go this option if you can't pick up the item yourself from the border.

Border pickup: Depending on how close you are to the border and how much you value your time, this is usually cheaper than USPS. Ship to one of the depots at a US address (there's many places that do this at Niagara Falls) and pick it up yourself. You can save on the taxes by lying (I wouldn't do it) but if you're caught, be prepared for secondary search every time you cross the border. If you show all the paperwork, you're only going to pay the taxes and never duty. The border agents simply won't bother looking up your items.

Yeah the box is 60lbs so I am thinking they'll charge me brokerage fee for sure but $8.50 isn't bad compared to what UPS and Fedex charges.

why not just buy them in Canada?

there are a lot of vendors that are competitive with US pricing.

bing: if there was a vendor in canada who can give BC Racing Coilovers + 6000K HID's for $925 shipped I'd have bought it locally. There wasn't a single vendor in Canada (this was about a year and a half ago) who could even give me the BC racing coilovers for $1000 tax included

You guys contact peter at Nextmod?

He's not much more than the states and eliminates the headaches of importing it.

Agreed.

I'd start there and entertain other options if that proved to be unsuccessful.

go with HSD coilovers in Canada. they have the best Canadian distribution and are a good lower - mid level coilover for people who don't REALLY track their cars...

at least on par with BC and maybe better.

You can get them for the same or better price in Canada because they have proper distrbution up here, not just shops with accounts (like BC)

the service will be better because of distribution as well. if you need parts for BC you'll have to import again.

I ship everything through USPS even full big brake kits. It always ends up cheaper for fees but like others said it is a bit slower.

Do you end up paying brokerage fee and tax every time or just tax?
