Brakes What brakes do you recommend?

Since my brakes are fading away and I was never happy with my braking power; I wanted to upgrade to Big Brake Kits (i.e. Akebono) . I opened up a thread in tech area to seek suggestions:
https://g35driver.com/forums/brakes-...uggestion.html

But I would still love to hear what people use for their G35 in Canada especially when it has a wide range of weather/road conditions. And where would you get them from (ship from USA or local)?

My 07 G35 AT is a daily-drive and I don't take it to tracks. But I'm more like a spirited driver. My OEM rotors had a crack a year back and I changed all my rotors/pads. They were kinda no name brand and never outperformed my experience with OEM ones. Now, I'm putting more forces on to the brake pedals and they've become terrible on wet conditions (don't know what they gonna do in snow). FYI, I run 19" OEM stock wheels for summer and some 17" for the winter (Akebono's won't fit for 17"). I'm looking forward to replacing my rotors/pads/lines if not calipers ASAP.

Any suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks.

Glad I'm not from the frozen north, if you're not tracking your G and it's a daily driver why waste $$ on a BBK? Maybe all you need is quality brake pads like HAWK HPS. After installing you'll need to do the bed in process (30% better stopping power) SEARCH! HAWK pads offer good stopping power and 90% less dust than OE pads. Available from our MARKETPLACE under vendor brakes, that's all I'll ever use on my coupe....Gary

If you're not seeing any track time, don't bother with a BBK unless you're just getting it to look at. Some decent pads and some good rotors will stop quite well in everyday driving.

I want BBK too - mostly just for the looks. Under DD conditions, my OEM rotors and HAWK pads work just fine.

For OEM set up, I run EBC 3GD rotors and EBC green stuff pads. No issues, ever.

I run basically StopTech Stage 2. They don't have a kit for our car but it's just rotors, pads, ss lines.

Did you get them locally? Or, you shipped them from USA?

All I find by googling:
StopTech® Sport Kits which is a bundle of rotors/pads/SS lines. But what about Stage 2?

Got them from the b2 and shipped to Niagara Falls.

Since you're from Sarnia, it's a no brainer getting them shipped to the US and pick them up yourself. Save a ton on shipping since US48 is free shipping.

Edit: I'm not sure of places that will do this near where you are but over at Niagara Falls/Buffalo, there's many places that accept shipment for a small fee. I use http://cbiusa.com/

I heard of it but never tried. I'm only afraid (yet to be "Canadian") that I may have to declare on Canadian border carrying a big box of auto parts. And that will make me pay for taxes since it's almost $700 product for just a day trip.

Is it still a big save compared to all other US to Canada shipping charges?

Declare and save the headaches. You still have to pay tax when the item is shipped, plus whatever shipping you've paid to get to your door and duties.

I was looking at some quotes for sways and it was $90 to ship it to my door. Plus whatever brokerage fee that UPS charges. Which is why I said it's stupid not to ship to the US, because you're practically 5 minutes away. If I was that close, I'd buy everything there.

I've driven to the border many times to pick up various things, wheels, sways, brakes, coils, exhaust, bumper and not once I was charged duties (7% on auto parts). It was always just HST (13%).

You definitely save when buying from the US and picking up the item yourself.

Hey flyz,

Winter passed and now looks like, I have to change my brakes. They're getting worse I believe.

Since you ordered StopTech Stage 2 from B2; were they direct replacement of OEM rotors? You didn't have to drill or something? How are they performing?

Mine were replaced before (some cheap brand) and I assume they were same fit as OEM.

Is this what you got:
http://www.b2autodesigns.com/product...oducts_id=1437

I can't work on brakes on my own, will need a mechanic to work on it. Some shop don't deal with aftermarket stuff at all here in Sarnia.
