Question Rust - Calgary

Anyone have any experience with Hyatt Infiniti and the extended corrosion warranty?

I think my 10 years is up in the next month or so and I would like them to look at the issue I'm having with B Pillar rust. From reading some of the other threads on this around the forum it sounds like it is a bit hit and miss as to if they will replace the door panels (sounds like that is the only solution). My rust issue isn't horrendous right now but it is annoying and is only going to get worse.

Anyways, I'm wondering if anyone has dealt with Hyatt on this issue and if I should be preparing myself for a fight.

Thanks

Haven't dealt with them on that particular issue, Dave, but my philosophy is it never hurts to ask.

I know it can be hit or miss with warranty items (clicking axle for example)- if Hyatt puts up a fight I would contact other dealerships in other areas and see if you can get a few that say they would honor it. Then go back to Hyatt with a little more ammo... Does the work need to be done by Infiniti or can it be done by a Nissan? Not sure if its an aftermarket warranty or specific to Hyatt.

B Pillar Rust

I have not dealt with Hyatt. However, my 9.75 year old G35 is getting two new doors next week because of B pillar rust. Three years ago, another door was replaced for the same reason. I have one door that doesn't have any rust on the B pillar.

On page 4 of my New Vehicle Limited Warranty, 'perforation' is defined as "a conditiion in which any body sheet metal panel has corroded from one surface to another." This definition is what clinched the deal for my doors. The issue had been the definition of 'perforation' and I was able to point my service people to this definition, which is exactly my rust situation.

Good luck.

It looks like I may be out of luck. They are claiming that it is chip related and therefore not a warranty item.

I'm not sure how one would go about fixing these spots as the area seems kind of plasticy. I don't think it would be a matter of touch-up paint. The spots are really small but unfortunately now I guess I need to contemplate selling the car before it becomes too noticeable.

b pillar rust

Is your rust on the black shiny 'b pillars' that are on the front and rear doors? If yes, I assume the rust/bubbling is showing on the on this area, correct? If yes, look under the rubber molding on the inside of the door and see if there is visible rust at the same spot as on the outside. If yes, you likely have rust perforation. If yes, this is covered by the 10 year warranty---at least it was in my case (I received 3 new doors and 1 door has no rust).
