Braided Brake Lines for your G
Just got my 48K service and had Jerry at Yorkville Infiniti install a set of braided brake lines complete with Motul full synthetic brake fluid.
With the set of brake lines on display, I couldn't resist. I didn't know what to expect, except that I've only read good things about getting braided lines.
After getting out on the road for a couple of hours and getting through a typical Toronto evening bumper to bumper rush hour, this mod is well worth the money.
It felt as if a new brake system was installed after noticing:
1. Much better overall braking response.
2. Much better brake pedal feedback.
3. More powerful braking effect requiring less pedal force effort.
4. Maximizes the potential of your brake system
5. Maintains braking performance consistency with continued use.
6. Brake pedel travel is reduced to achieve same braking effort compared with OEM lines.
In combination with Motul synthetic brake fluid, the Brembo's have really come to life. I highly recommend this mod whether your brakes are Brembo or non-Brembo. You'll definitely feel the difference and increase your braking confidence.
Thanks Jerry (jliu@dfcauto.com) for such a great job.

How much were the brake lines themselves and what manufacturer makes them?
Thanks,
Bill
Thanks,
Bill

I had stainless steel braided lines in my old car and it made a significant difference in pedal feel. Putting in Motul fluid however doesn't make much of a difference in street driving and may actually be counter-productive since it's more hygroscopic than stock fluid. It may have a higher dry boiling point, but the wet boiling point is far lower than stock.

And I am not sure where you got your information from BUT the fact also is that normal DOT 5.1 has a HIGHER wet boiling point 375F and the dry boiling point is also higher 518F, Motul DOT 5.1 has a wet boiling point of 356F, and a dry boiling point of 509F. DOT 5.1 brake fluid is also INHERENTLY MORE hydroscopic, its ability to hold moisture is much better than the lower DOT fluids , not to the rate of DOT 4 or DOT 3 which has lower boiling points, hence DOT 5.1 fluids requires less maintenance. DOT 5.1 brake fluid is a better choice for many racers yet some DOT 3 performance fluids can have as high as 675F boiling point. Hope this clarifys better.
...............Dry Boiling Point....Wet Boiling Point
DOT 3 .......... 401 F ................. 284 F
DOT 4 .......... 446 F ................. 311 F
DOT 5 .......... 500 F ................. 356 F
DOT 5.1 ....... 518 F ................. 375 F

Thanks for the info Jerry. Is there any noticable benefit to going synthetic with the clutch fluid? If so what type?

I was still thinking of silicone based DOT 5 but DOT 5.1 seems win-win to me.
