bought it... 2005 G35 6MT

i posted this in another thread, but i think it's somewhat buried... have some questions below...

hey guys... new here and a new 2005 G35 6MT Sedan owner!

i wasn't expecting to buy one since i thought that all the 2005 G35s in Calgary were spoken for. well, they r not since i just bought one today. i was looking for a Silverstone with black interior, and low and behold, there it was on the showroom floor. well, i was "only looking" and didn't really have intentions on buying right then and there, but my "financier", who was with me at the time, surprised me by saying we should buy the car now... wasn't ready for that!

anyhoo, thanks to this forum and u guys, it wasn't a hard decision to make and i signed the papers for the G35. has only 19km on it, no NAV, and 18" wheels. bought the Clearbra, as from what i have read, Infiniti's paint kinda sucks.

the one thing i wasn't sure about buying (which i did), was the undercoating, rust inhibitor, paint protector, and leather protectant. i know that this 'package' is a bit of a rip job, but the question i have is, does it need to be done??? if not, i'm going to have them not do it and save myself some $$$. comments please!

i'm really looking forward to getting the G35 as it has been about 11 years since i had a new vehicle. the '95 Mustang GT is being retired... and probably sold. it will be nice to be a bit pampered compared to the 'Stang.

is there anything i should know when i pick up the G35 on Wednesday? anything i should look for specifically or have them do? words of wisdom would be much appreciated.

one last thing. i hope i'm not being too forward when i ask how much insurance is costing forums members in Calgary or Edmonton. i'm getting around $1600 and up (WAY UP) for one year. more expensive than my 'Stang!!! anyone want to recommend a broker?

again, thanks guys!

Welcome aboard Mik...
When do you pick it up??
Nice choice with the MT, would love to still be driving MT myself; (GD screwed up left knee )

RE: the package...
JMHO, but save your money. (rust protection is a total waste)
Get a clearbra done after you get it (save at least 35%).
Scotch guard the carpets, Zaino the paint & you're good to go.
Great choice of colours BTW....

Congrats! Speaking of 'stangs, I really really like the new one. Pulled up beside a guy in a Silver GT with black stripes...and looked over and said "Nice ride...looks incredible with the black stripes." He was kinda shocked and responded with "What are you talking about? I was checking out YOUR car!" Good times...

Welcome aboard Mik, and congrats to you and your 'financier' on the new ride.
I agree with inTgr8r: save your $$$$ and don't bother with the rustproofing.

When you pick her up Wednesday, just go over it carefully and look for any flaws. Look closely at the wheels for any curb rash, and body dings.

My insurance (here in Ontario) was cheaper (a little) for my G-Sedan so look for a premium break on yours.

Let us know how it goes on Wed.

thanks guys!

Balzz... i did look at the new Mustang, but the G35 does have a lot more refinement. i want to be pampered...hehe

inTgr8r... the color is really nice. i was hoping for a couple of shades darker, but in lower light conditions, it seems to get darker.

oh, and i have been informed that i shouldn't worry about the 'protection package' because, (direct quote) "your not paying for it." well, i'm not paying for the protection package, but the rest of the car... that's a different story.

as for insurance, i guess i'm in the ballpark. i had a minor fender bender almost three years ago, so that does make a difference. i thought my insurance would go down now that i don't have a 'sports car'...hehe i'm still shopping around, but i think i will be staying with my current broker as they r giving me the lowest quote.

i'm still in a little shock... i really wasn't expecting to buy a 2005. i really thought that i would be buying a 2006. ah well, Mike at Hyatt Infiniti is treating me well and gave a bit of a deal so i'm happy. 2006 prices will probably be a little higher, so it's good i am getting the G35 now. Can't wait till Wednesday to pick it up!!!

is there anything i should be aware of during the inspection before i take it off the lot? stuff to look for...

Mik...welcome and congrats on the ride.

As for insurance company, you should look into RBC. I recently had an accident and my car was written off, and these guys really care about their clients. I am extremely impressed by the level of service and care they have put into my claim.

I went to them about two years ago because I found their rates to be the best for me. Not to mention their level of professionalism. Very good company.

One thing I HIGHLY RECOMMEND is to get the "WAIVER DEPRECIATION" on your policy with whomever you decide to insure your car with. It will save you thousands, God forbid the same thing that happened to me happens to you.

For the time of delivery, I am **** when it comes to inspecting the car. I check everything...engine, trunk, spare tire and tools, lights, a/c, CD player, windows, etc.

We'll see you around.

Chico... thanks for the advice on the Waiver Of Depreciation... i got a rider for 30 months when i insured the G35. wasn't all that much either. i didn't cover the glass, as i got a seperate rider for that too.

with my 'recent' accident... (yeesh... almost 3 years ago!), i'm a bit of a risk it seems. my insurance company is actually offering me insurance that is just a little above the rate if i did not have an accident on file. the highest quote was close to $3000, and the rest around $1800 - $2200. i consider that a LOT to insure a vehicle. the $1600 i have now should come down pretty quick.

another thing guys. do u recommend the factory rubber floor mats? apparently the driver's side can hook in and stays in place. it's a $150-ish option. yea? nay?

the excitement builds!!!

GOT THE G35 HOME! whoo hoo!!!

big smile on my face... still in a little awe. went through the car with Mike the salseman, and although there were some minor cosmetic things that i noticed, nothing major. Hyatt Infiniti treated me well. no swirls in the paint, the clearbra was placed on well, and the interior was clean. a scuff mark on the driver's side entrance was taken care of.

the G35 is definately a more technical car than my '95 Mustang. i'm going to have to go over the manual tonight to find out all the little stuff this car can do. driving the car home was sweet. very comfprtable ride... firm but not harsh. and i know harsh (solid rear axle in the 'Stang). set the 'idiot light' to 4000RPM for shifts. gonna break the car in right.

the G35 looks good from all angles, and i definately like the switch to the Coupe-like rear tail lights. i am thinking of lowering the car about 0.5", but will do that later. the stock 18" r actually pretty nice. i'll be looking for 17" winter rims in the fall. the Silverstone paint color is very nice.

i will keep the car stock for now, but i can see a few mods coming somtime in the future.

thanks again guys! all the info on this forum helped a lot!
