Canada Customs
I phoned CC today (800-461-9999) for info on import duties and taxes payable on items imported from the U.S. and was told that provided the item (in this case an exhaust syetem for my car) was made in the U.S. that no import duty will be charged, but GST and PST would be due on arrival of the item. Payable to whomever delivers the item. Post office, UPS, etc. (website: www.ccra.gc.ca)
Does anyone have any personal experience with this, and can they confirm what I learned today? Thanks peeps.

Re: Canada Customs
thats sounds about right. I've ordered stuff from the US and I
only get charged the GST plus the $5.00 postage handling fee. I have also requested to send the item as a gift, this way no GST or handling charge. Unfortunately u are only limited to
$50.00 Cdn. In your case u would not be able to get away with it because of the cost of the exhaust..
My G is absolutely "Mavelus"!

Re: Canada Customs
There is also a 'Brokerage' fee to consider. Ask the shipper to allow you to act as your own broker through customs. You'll save quite a few dollars, depending on the carrier's normal brokerage fee (sometimes based on a percentage of the item price).

Re: Canada Customs
My experience is that shipping via US Postal and claiming it as a gift with a value of $35 US usually passes through customs with no charges. As of late though probably because of 9/11...customs is a little more stringent. The worst and most expensive shipper is UPS. The worst part of it all, is that if your package is unlucky enough to be openned by customs, you're likely to have a delay in arrival of anywhere from 3-5 days!!! Not to mention the additional fees that you will be surprised with when your package finally arrives at your door.
If you go to Google, and search "How to ship to Canada", the 4rth link down from the top entitled: "Easiest way to ship to Canada?" with the URL:
www.webmasterworld.com/forum22/590.htm
is a great source of info. I tried to link it to this post, but it wouldn't show up and required a login. Going through google will allow you to see the message string. Hope this all helps.
