Brake Wear, How long should they last?

If my memory serves me correctly, the first change was done at about 32,000 KMs and the service manager told me that I'm surprised you got that much out of them. A lot of others have come in early than you! From what I have heard, they have improved the brake wear significantly now.
Yorkville wanted $650.00 + tax for just the rear brakes on my sedan. I told them to take my car off the hoist!

Looks like I'll just have to keep an eye on my 05.

when I changed my tires to winters, local active/green&ross apperantly examined my brakes and they wanted to change the front pads for $270 tax inclusive.
He said there were 330 sec(???) left, not quite sure what he meant, can anyone tell me how do you measure your brakes life?

I would definitely plan on getting your brakes done before you end up doing the rotors as a result of metal on metal. Always better to swap out the pads early than risk rotor damage.

Not saying that they would do this, but it's always something that I've wondered. Sort of like "work to rule" thing. Do only what the customer wants, especially if he/she is a regular, because you know that they will be back when it's really needed. If you tell the customer ahead of time, then the customer may take the added time to go shop for prices.
Just some thoughts that go through my head occasionally...

^ well, I don't think my dealer would do something like that but I guess you never know. I think I will ask them if they did the check and what was the result.(because they didn't write on the bill)
what do you guys think the offer from AGR for $270 tax in deal for front pads service?
oh btw, I have the brembos.

I've seen a number of DYI's on the Brembo pads on this site. It seemed very easy.
