It sure is not like the way Toronto used to be just a few years ago.
When I was in the public school system as a student, if you had a problem with someone, you would have a little fight one on one with your fists. Now its gang mentality and its use what you can conseal in your clothing with all of your buddies involved.
I have seen first hand how our youth have changed just in the past 5 years or so( I used to work in an inner city high school). They show now respect to anyone. Yes, there are just a few like this but it is them that you would read or hear about in the news.
The laws of this country are way too light on criminals( both young and old). There is to deterrent for them. They don't give a rats a$$ if they injure or even take someones life.
There are alot of things that could be done to make this city a great place, like it used to be. Let's hope that Toronto would not continue to decline in its bad ways but get back on track to the city it once was.

B.

Have you heard recently about the publicized attempt to begin to involve the actual gunmakers in these crimes? If it wasn't bad enough to blame the deaths on 'U.S' guns coming over our borders, its great to see our tax dollars being spent so fruitfully on chasing the GUNMAKERS - LOL.

And just to add a comment on people referring to bad areas and such (ie. Jane and Finch). I find it ironic that most west enders say they feel that the east end is unsafe and those who've lived in the east end all their lives feel that the west end is unsafe. I've lived in the west end (Miss/Etob) and never felt scared at all. But that story about the bus driver getting roughed up at Bloor/West Mall is nuts.

Stay safe all,
Al

Al,
To my mind, that "irony" is borne out of familiarity with one's surroundings and neighbours......I don't think anyone is trying to point the finger. ...
Certainly the longer you live in a particular area, the more you become familiar (and comfortable) with it.
I lived in the west end (Mississauga area) for many years, and am surprised to hear of shootings in places I know very well.
Such is the way things are going in many places, especially big centres.

I sure hope the police get a grip on the issue soon, and our great town of TO regains what it once had and once was.

i live at royal york and eglinton. jane and finch is not too far off from me and drive through that area quite a bit. when u drive through there at night and all u see is a bunch of guys standing around with baggy pants and parkas covering their heads staring at you at the intersection... it gives off an eerie feeling like u gotta get the hell out of there quickly.

Definitely

Not that an astute crowd like my fellow G35driver.com mates needed it, but I would most assuredly agree with Msedanman. I too feel (though it was not stated in my first post) that my generalization about 'east fearing west and west fearing east' was in no way meaning to infer truth or accuse. I have loads of friends in the east end and probably spend more time out there. I would have to say my comment was laughable at best.

In fact, I would have to agree that it the point really drives home when you hear that there was an incident a block away from where you actually live! hate to pull out the N.I.M.B.Y. (Not In My Backyard) card but there you go.
