Brembo Brake Pad Replacement - Ouch!

Hi there - first time poster here. Hope I can get some info. from some of the GTA members regarding the replacemnet of my front & rear Brembo brake pads.

I have a 2004 6MT with the Brembo package and I'm now at 48 000kms - so I brought my baby in for the majorscheduled tune-up(approx. $500). Upon further inspection, the service advisor told me that both sets of my brake pads were in need of replacement. The rotors could be saved by machining but it was pretty crucial to get new pads.

I'm kinda shocked that after only 2 years - I have to do this costly service. Does it see right to you guys? I suppose it's plausible but I wanted to get a bit of feedback from others here first. The procedure will set me back something like $900 - yikes! Hope to get some wisdom from fellow G drivers also with Brembos.

Thanks!!!

I am a service advisor at a car dealership and that sounds about right. The brembo pads are expensive and the resurfacing of the rotors should cost about $150-$200 at the dealership level. You can find it cheaper if you bought the pads and went somewhere else to get the rotors cut. Or, you don't have to use brembo pads. That's where half of your expense is. Hope this helps.

Welcome G-grrrl...
I agree with the above post.

FWIW...
Many use aftermarket pads, unfortunately there are not many GTA sources.
Many of us use the forum sponsors and import from the US.

For example here is a link to some Brembo front pads

This is one of the reasons they no longer use Brembo's - while people on enthusiasts boards like this appreciate the aggressive braking they provide, and realize that comes at a price, most consumers are shocked when they have to have their pads replaced at 20k-50k miles for ~$2000.

The irony is that real aggressive braking kills the floating-caliper pads much faster due to heat.

Thanks for all the helpful info. people. I went ahead and did it at the dealership - they were able to cut me a bit of a break the cost for the complete Brembo pad replacement, labour and machining of the rotors cost me just under $800 tax in. They also knocked about $150 off the 48k service. Not a steal but it was at least better than I originally feared.

The service advisor even told me that I was lucky to have Brembo replacements after 48k - saying a lot of people come in to do that repair after only 30-40k.

Oh well - live and learn I suppose. I'll be a bit more careful with my braking habits from here on in.

Thanks again everyone.

Good job G-Grrrl.

I've got quite a few kms to go before I think I'll need to do my brakes, but that's good to get some kind of benchmark on the rates.

Cost to change pads on Brembo's

Even with a break on your brake job cost, I find what you paid way too expensive.

I recently changed all four pads on my brembo's at 66,000K and together with pads, machine all four rotors and labour, my total cost was about $360.00 (taxes in).

After completing a few weeks of research, I decided to pick up a set of PBR Axxis Deluxe Plus pads from Importrp.com. You can speak to Jeff by contacting him at: sales@importrp.com or 425-357-6818. Processing my order was quick and got my pads in about a week and a half. After taxes and duty, I paid about $120.00 cdn. for the set of pads.

I've included the link below if you'd like to check out the entire selection of PBR Axxis pads. These pads are really popular replacements pads with Bimmer and VW owners. After about 500k on these pads, I find the PBR Axxis perform better than OEM minus the extreme case of brake dust accumulation (I also have fully synthetic Motul performance brake fluid and braided brake lines).

https://g35driver.com/forums/showthr...ight=pbr+axxis

The PBR Axxis Deluxe Plus brake pads offer an exclusive OE equivalent organic and mild ceramic compound that provides outstanding stopping power with very low fade. Extremely quiet with proven long pad and rotor life and low rotor scoring. These pads are formulated from the latest premium quality materials, and are known for their extremely low dust. The Deluxe Plus brake pads will virtually elminate brake dust, without hurting performance.

Deluxe Plus:
-Front- PN: D 960 R $38
-Rear- PN: D 961 R $35

duhprez- that sounds like a great deal for a complete brake job with quality replacement parts. Noted for future reference.
