Transmission fluid change ?
It's time to change the transmission fluid in my G35 AT.
I know I must use Infiniti's stuff. I'm going to let my Lube guy do it.
Does he only open th pan and replace what he drains. Is it possible to change all the fluid? I've called two Nissan places in town to get the price for the fluid. One place charges $6/L and the other $12? Sounded fishy to me for the same product.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks

Sam, I think the only way to change all the fluid is with a full flush. If he replaces only what he drains it will only be 30-40% of the total fluid in the system, including the torque converter. Quite a bit more money for the flush but worth it IMHO.

Hi Sam, Wherever you go for the change, make sure they use the Nissan Type J fluid....It's a top quality synthetic and is a must have if you have any warranty issues.
As Deane says, you need the proper equipment to do a complete flush (full 12 liters) otherwise it's only a short change -- not good.
Compare charges with your local shop and the 'Stealership'.. Might be just as easy and cheap to go there.
All the best at Christmas my friend.

Thanks for the PDF inTgr8r, seeing certainly helps.
Now I'm leaning towards a full flush as you suggest Deane.
I guess a Transmission place would have the proper equipment and could use the right stuff as you suggest Colin.
I'll check it out tomorrow.
Thanks for the imput gentlemen.

Mr. Transmission will so one for about $130 plus fluid cost.

Thanks for all your thoughts guys ( the printable ones anyway).

Jeff,
If all you want to do is check the oil level, all you need do is locate the filler neck/dispstick holder at the rear of the engine, unbolt the 10mm hold down nut (don't drop it) and pull out the stick....
Make sure the oil is up to temp but not overly hot. It should be pinky and in the crosshatch area.

I have a 2003. It doesn't have a stick to check. After searching it seems you can obtain a dipstick from Nissan/Infiniti to perform the level check. I'll assume the autos are pretty much the same from 03 to 05/06.
Question: Has anyone actually purchased a dipstick and checked? Reason. I'd like to be able to verify the level before performing an AT flush as per the pdf'd file that's posted. But also it seems the cost of this stuff is so pricey, it approaches the cost of just having it done. But I'd still like a dipstick anyway.

If you are in the U.S., then your ride won't have a stick, (only here in Canada do you get the stick). Not sure about newer VQ's tho.
Down there they suggest a quick trip to dealer for the fluid check.
Yes you can buy a new stick, which is attached to a new cap which is then bolted into the tranny tube.
Check with your dealer for p/n and ordering. They're about $20.

Got it done at Mr. Lube on Highland in Kitchener. They put in about 9 Litres of the right stuff. Drained pan 3 times.
Cost was 130 ish.
Feeling better now, especially since the roads are clear and dry
