I figured I should start a new ongoing thread for this topic since clubs are starting to release their dates for the year. inTgr8r also inquired in another thread so this should keep the clutter down.

So far, I've only seen dates from BMW Club which are:

April 21-23 Mosport International Raceway
June 9-11 Mosport International Raceway
July 7-9 Le Circuit Mont Tremblant
Sept 8-10 Mosport (School & Club Race)

A few other events I will be participating in will be the SAAB Club events and the 2 Solo-1 (to be called Solosprint this year) schools in addition to the regular Solosprint competitions. I'll update the dates as they become available.

I'm sure most of you have heard me ramble on this topic enough, but I encourage all of you to come out and really see what your cars can do...and understand how much every one of us still has to learn when it comes to driving. The G is a really great car to drive and there's no place better to experience its potential than the track while having the safety and structure of a school environment. I guarantee you'll have a big grin at the end of the day.

PS Colin, no excuses with the M45 - there was Toyota 4runner on track at Shannonville last time I was there!

The driver training aspect is what I'd be most interested in...

I'll address the concern Mudgy mentioned in the other thread:

Open passing is not allowed at these events. Passing is very controlled and only allowed on the straights when the driver of the slower car has given an explicit signal to the driver of the faster car to pass. No trading paint here.

 

Thanks Shane. Wish I was there for the events but you've helped inspire me to find out more on the Bluenose club here. They conduct two driver training sessions in '06 June & September. Shane- (Canuck) you interested??

You can count me in - it would be nice to have a stong representation from our group - G's, M's - whatever.

I'm sure that most of us (myself included) would be astonished at how much we could learn in the driving of these vehicles to their true potential, and the track is the only place to do it.

Looking forward to it - it's something I have always wanted to do!

 

I sure would'nt mind joining in the fun and certainly doing the cornering and speed in a controlled environment. My only concern would be how controlled is it? I am one of those people paranoid of hitting anything thing other than myself

I am mostly there for the learning experience and also to have alot of fun learning what the G can do on the track even if its a luxury sedan. But it is a sport edition

hehe well my boys and I will be starting our track season @ Shannonville as soon as the track opens and the weather gets good.

On the topic of tracking SUVs ... I tracked my 2005 Murano last season! haha it was a blast!!!

Just signed up for the BMW driving school here in Nova Scotia-The Bluenose Chapter.
It's in June and I'm keen to start to really learn to drive.

Head Instructor has a G sedan as one of his cars.

 

I'm determined to attend one of these this year. Although not with the G.

'Cause it will be my first time out, and the G is/would still be brand spankin' new.

Hehe, I figure if I'm going to be a complete newbie, I should do it in a ride more fitting of that status.

 

My first time out too. They put all the novice guys together and you have an instructor with you. There will be a wide range of people and cars so why not learn on the car you're going to be regularly driving.

I know you don't want to hurt your "baby".... but it's not like they're going to be abused...

 

It's at AMP, a shorter tighter track than Mosport. I'm sure I'll find out how bad a driver I am.

The BMW club also has some autocrosses which I may try as well.
