I got a call from the dealer. It looks like they sold their first Cobra. There are supposed to be roughly 50 or so people on the waiting list. When I first talked to them, they said their dealer didn't do dealer markups. Now that the cars are arriving, he gives me the "oh, by the way, the cars are selling significantly above MSRP. Come see me, and we can talk about getting you in one". I asked how much above MSRP did the first one sell for? Are we talking 5k, 10k? He mentions that its significantly higher than that, and for that reason, the people are dropping off the waiting list.

I truly beleive the dealership is just going to sell the cars to the highest bidder, and there is no waiting list. I would mind paying about 59-60k for the Cobra (MSRP 54k), just to have a hot car, and 500 hp bragging rights. But the more I think about it, right now 2006 Corvette C6 Z51 package are going out the door for low 60's. If the the salesman says markup is much more over 10k, then forget it, the car isn't worth it.

Currently there are 60 people on the waiting list at this dealership. I heard most SVT dealers will be getting a maximum of 15 Shelby's, coming in one per month.

That's one hell of a steal for 500+ hp. Keeping my fingers crossed that 45 people on that list are just tire kicking.....
That would seem reasonable for such a ride.......best of luck to you too..I would think that most on the waiting list are just 'tire kickers' too...Let's hope so.

Being a past owner of one of the originals ('68 Convertible), I've got a soft spot for anything with that moniker, and I'm sure it'll be worth the price of admission......
Let us know what develops....

Have to agree with your speculation about the bidding process and with your logic on how much to pay before switching brands.
Pretty sure btw that the 60's originals had the Cobra emblem on them as well or perhaps it was just a model with the 428 cobra jet engine. Maybe Colin can confirm.

Oh yeah, mine had a cobra on each front fender, one on the grill, and one the fuel filler cap.
The 5 liter version, the GT350 had the same emblems on it too.

I'm sorry to say I've not located my hard pics of it yet but still looking. She was a beauty.
I still miss her a lot.....

Yep, although the new ones will likely have even more.

Just better engineered to handle it.

I'm not crazy about the retro looks but that's some serious stock power for the $. If the current Mustang GT is any indication, that car is sure to be a hit.

Wow, LMC has a beautiful KR in their inventory right now. What I would give to have that.

She was a beauty too, Zac....(I believe Eleanor was a '67 427) ......an even more rare Shelby.....big blocks after that year were 428 if memory serves.

For a Mustang lover, the mid to late sixties years were "la Creme de la Creme".
