nice man. yea im still kinda slackin on this project. My funding is being rerouted to something else im making but ill get back to this as soon as its done. Any idea how much power ur car pc is drawing? im a bit worried about my 120watt power supply but it should be enough..

 

Quick update:

Ordered the $175 - Lilliput EBY701-NP/C/T 7" Touch screen LCD

Ordered it early so i can test to see if its what i need. Clarity, brightness the works.

heres the lcd in the double din. had to cut out the double din a good amount for it to fit inside. then i hot glued a piece of plexiglass on the back side of the lcd to hold it in place. then reinforced the hot glue with some epoxy. Also put a piece of plexi in the middle of the larger plexi to make sure it doesn't bend much when your pressing on the lcd since its touch screen.

 

next step is to cover up any cuts or bad spots and repaint. since i originally never liked the color of the center console. seemed a bit too light of a gray. im going to try and find a paint color that is a tad bit darker. i haven't decided if i wanted to make the new paint semi-gloss or gloss yet. if ne1 has any suggestions let me know.

 

nice fit. Make sure you reinforce that cause hot glue tends to melt and come loose in hot weather. I've used JB Weld on several projects and its worked very well

 

about to start building my carputer, curious where you bought that liliput, i saw the xenarc that other guy had for 275 on amazon... but that was the cheapest... i'm thinking of just hacking a 360 and running ubuntu or windows 7 till google chrome comes out with a beta.

 

Snotf i bought it off ebay. it was about $170. I wanted something cheap enough that will let me test out the system and find out what would be best. but not cheap enough that it wont look decent. The screen i got is pretty clear, i like it.

 

So what's your take on the quality of that screen?

 

The screen so far is not installed in the car so i dont know how well it will do with glare but indoors its very nice. I really dont have any complaints. it serves its purpose. I will post more once i have everything installed inside the car.


Here are some new pics of the car pc.

The pc is a mini atx custom built by me. Its got a ZOTAC NF630I-D-E motherboard with a Intel Pentium E5200 Wolfdale 2.5GHz cpu. 2gig ram, 320 gig hard drive. The power supply unit in the pics is not actually going into the car. Just using it until everything is ready. ATM its using Centrafuse for the interface.

 

What sort of boot time are you looking at, both cold-start and, I assume the normal start-up state - sleep mode?

I'm planning on using SSD when I start mine.

 

cold boot is about 25 sec. from hibernate its around 8sec. ssd is probably the right choice if you have the money. my hard drive should do for now though.

 

theres a cool little program called bootvis that you guys should look into. it reduces boot time by a considerable amount. its for winxp. im sure there's others out there as well if boot times are an issue.

 

Alright. new update:

Everything is inside the CAR!!!!!

took a whole day and lots of driving back and forth to autozone and radioshack :P

I had some problems with the 70-7551 harness because it says NO WHERE that you need to connect a blue wire from the harness to a 12v source to actually turn on the amp.

Now that the audio is working it seems to be very staticy. Even when the computer is not on but the car is. I can hear the static. Anyone have any suggestions on fixing this?

Found the source of the static noise. Its the audio cable coming from the pc to the rca connections in the front. hopefully this will solve the problem: 3.5mm HEADPHONE JACK STEREO NOISE KILLER AUDIO FILTER

You should be able to eliminate the noise by grounding better, or not running audio wires next to power wires.
