hey guys..what does everyone use to keep their new rims looking new?just basic mild soap and maybe wax them?

 

If you use a wheel sealant (like Poorboys) you should only ever need to use soap and water. If you find yourself needing something with more bite Eagle One Tire cleaners work pretty well for OTC products. They have three (Mag, All wheel, and Aluminum, in that order from strongest to mildest). I'd stick with the All-wheel or Aluminum as the Mag is pretty acidic.

 

I use the eagle one wheel and tire cleaner along with some throwaway stainless steel wipes

 

stainless steel wipes ? I've never heard of them.
I use Wheel Wax which keeps my wheels really clean and wash up nicely
with just soap and water.

If you mean "new" wheels, like not the stock ones, be careful with wheel cleaners. If there is any part that's polished, chromed, shinny, etc. better safe then sorry and just stick with the soap/water.

 

regular soap and water here.. always works and also put some wax on evrey now and then, makes them a lot easir to clean.

Meguirs NXT Soap and water in washes, and when the car is dry and I feel like wiping down the lips/spokes, I use the Swifter dust pads...soft, no scratching and it helps pick up excess brake dust as well.

 

If you *need* to use a wheel cleaner, I'd go with Eagle One A2Z. It was rated #1 wheel/tire cleaner from GuruReports.com

If you *don't need* a dedicated wheel cleaner, I usually use a separate batch of wash solution with a wheel brush or cotton chenille pad. For a cleaner look, get a spoke brush to get the inner rim.

In the end, I'd always recommend using a dedicated sealant (Poorboy's, Zaino) on the wheels. Brake dust would barely need more than a stiff stream of water to dislodge, plus, the shine level would increase.

 

I use my car wash soap (zaino or meguiar's nxt) and water to clean my rims. I first towel dry any water drops on the outer edge and lip, then soak a towel on the inner part of the wheel where there's always a puddle of water. Then I drive my car around the block to get any excess water out and towel dry again to avoid any water spots.
