Bought some car wash supplies....are these ok?

hey, after reading "G35 Detail Tips by Brad", I got a few supplies from PepBoys. I don't know if they are ideal for my G35. Any recomendations would be great.

I got:

1. Chenille Wash Mitt (by turtlewax)

2. Turtle Wax 2001 foaming Wheel Cleaner (no acid formula)

3. Turtle Wax 2001 Tire Foam & Shine

4. Genuine Chamois Leather.....I use this for my other cars and it works wonders drying. Expensive though (12 bucks for 3sq ft.)

5. Grip tech tire brush

I have a Black G35, so I hope that wash mitt won't leave white threads (i've never used that before)

I can still return those products if you can recomend something better...unless there isn't a big difference.

thanks for any help.

What's with the turtlewax products? Its a g35, not a corolla! If it works for you, then go for it... but here is my take on what you have...

1. DO NOT USE CHENILLE ANYTHING!!! They trap dirt on the surface of the strands and can scratch your finish. I learned from experience as have others. Go with a microfiber wash mit! Any "sponge" type products are no good. Some even use a plain old cotton towel.

3. Check to see if the tire shine "slings." It might be hard to notice if you don't know what to look for. If it slings... ditch it.

5. What is this tire brush? I think its unnecessary. I personally just use a plain old sponge from a supermarket for the wheels. Nice and small to help me get everything and rinses easy!

4. instead of the chamois, go for microfiber towels.

"4. instead of the chamois, go for microfiber towels."

I agree, sort of. Use either good microfiber or a synthetic like the 'Absorber'.

The natural chamois isn't good for what ever you decide to put as a finish over your paint. I was told by a detailer many years ago that the interaction between the natural oils in the chamois can actually strip the finish. I still use mine, but just for the glass.

Where can I get a microfiber mitt? I haven't seen one of those!

I plan to use the wash mitt for 6 months before I crack open another one.

Ok, so turtle wax is lame.

Sorry, I have no clue about what products to buy...

Can somebody just outline an entire of list of materials I need to wash my G35? I'll go pick them up from pepboys. I will really appreciate it.

Re: Bought some car was supplies....are these ok?

First question you want to ask yourself is: Do you really want to open this can of worms?

Second question is: The red or blue pill, Mr. Anderson? The rabbit hole goes deep.

Third question is: How much time are you willing to spend on this? Without cutting corners, for a bare bones wash and dry the minimum is two hours.

You really would have to pick a decent product and follow the procedures for that product. You could go the crystal guard route and have one set of directions or go the Zaino route and have a different set of directions. I use Zaino. Here is a good resource from a fanatic: http://www.350zfrenzy.com/editorials...ay_no/0403.php

If you follow Brad's tips using newer more proven variations you should have good results.

Bottom line... you aren't going to get the goods from pep boys.

Re: Bought some car was supplies....are these ok?

LOL! I'm not being mean... just giving it to you straight without the fluff and guff and promises of the best shine ever. I've walked where you currently tread. Spent a good amount of $$ on crap from pep boys only to learn the truth and how I wasted my time and money. Not to mention the damage done to my finish. This is why I asked about the rabbit hole. I wish I never knew the crap i know now. My car has become "disgusting" to me because of what I have learned.

Re: Bought some car was supplies....are these ok?

I just bought most of the recomended supplies from that link you gave me.

All the Zaino supplies, microfiber cloths, mitt, etc...
Z2,Z6,Z5,Z7,Z16. ..I feel like I need a 350Z now.
total was like 75 of zaino stuff...and 25 for cloth stuff.

and 20 bucks more for the cali dryer thing, bah, already forgot the name.

At least I bought quality products this time

I think that's what he means, geez, whoever invented that thing is great, I have been using one for about 6 years now, much better than a chamois!
