Looking for advice

I've read through many posts on the Care & Detailing thread, and I must say I was thoroughly overwhelmed. I just bought an 07 G35S in Black. Love the color, and I understood it was going to take work on my end to maintain the color.

However, I wasn't happy with the way the dealership delivered. I feel like they rushed the prep process because it was semi-late. It looks GREAT in the garage, but when it's out under the direct sun - totally different. I wouldn't say I see swirl marks, but they shine is uneven and very unsatisfying for me to look at.

Last night I went to Autozone and read through the descriptions of a bunch of products from the Meguiars 3 step process, what a clay bar was and what its used for, carnauba wax, polishes, etc. I ended up buying Mothers Carnauba Wax and applied that last night after I washed it. But I feel as if it still looks the same.

So my question is, what products should I look into buying? I don't have a porter cable, just my 2 hands and a decent work ethic. I've read about Zaino products, but I always read tons of abbreviations, so i have no idea which one i should buy.

Suggestions?

Thanks for reading my long post.

from a pro detailer that worked on black g's he said that the paint
micromarrs very easily....means that you will want to do a very fine
polish before you apply your wax.

Prima Amigo
Prima Epic or even just Hydro

www.detailersparadise.com

use the softest pad you can find for the wax, no cotton pads or towels.
use DP's monster fluffy wax removal MF towel.

Thanks Kenchan.

Prima Amigo will get off the uneven shine, or micromarrs?

Is there something that can enhance hte color of the black, like, make it more of a brilliant black as opposed to just a mirror shine?

Wow! Welcome to the world of owning a Black G. I got mine 2.4 years ago and I can't look at a car the same since. I HIGHLY recommend getting a Porter Cable random orbital polisher (PC). If you actually have holograms from the dealer using a rotary buffer, you will need a PC. If your swirls are just wax swirls, no problem. I don't think clay will necessarily remove those. Wash the car a few times and they should disappear. However, you need to give us some pictures so we can see exactly what you are talking about. Post some pics, please.

As for products, I like NXT from Meguair's. It is pretty easy to use, seems to hide some swirls, and is available over the counter. It makes black look very dark and wet.

THIS THREAD IS USELESS WITHOUT PICTURES!

I know i know! its rainy here, so hopefully tomorrow afternoon i'll be able to get it at the right angle.

I had eventually planned on getting a PC. Yeah, I do believe hte holograms are just wax swirls. What product gets rid of that?

NXT has some cleaning ability. It will take the "extra" wax that shows swirls off. Otherwise, just wash the car a couple of times. I have an old bottle of wax-as-you-dry from a to be unnamed company that I used recently as a quicky. It did that swirl thing and drove me nuts. The key is putting whatever product on as thin as possible and buffing it off completely. Seriously, I recommend getting some NXT liquid. Put a thin coat on and let it haze. Do the swipe test with your finger and if it wipes clear, take the first coat off. Then put on another thin coat (I MEAN THIN) and do the same. You should be ok.

it will remove micromarrs and also cleans the surface. you would
use it after your typical polishes. on a brand new car, should only
need very mild polish and soft polish pads.

check him (octaneguy) out.

Is this applied by hand or PC? I'm always interested in products that remove micromarring by hand for those hard to reach areas. Scratch-x has been my fav so far
