Re: cleaning brake dust

Sure, I can understand that, but just 550 miles, your car will be like the one traded in by "a little old lady who only drove to church"! That's quite a commute you have, I don't work anymore, but you know, I drive more now than when I "had" to drive for some reason! I wouldn't mind having another car to drive in bad weather, but really can't afford that right now!

Re: cleaning brake dust

abq,
i don't drive it:
1. to work on regular basis
2. in rain or snow
3. if it's only a 2 minute ride
4. if it's to chauffer my kids and they just played muddy football or soccer

i do drive it
1. when none of the other 3 apply.

to me, partly because it's new, it is so great to drive.
my other office is also 55 miles away, but easy traffic pattern. will take it a few times there to get past break in. will definitely have the V1 going.

arrrrrghhh

search search search

my method:
clean off caked on brake dust w/ eagle one a2z. use a small plastic brush for the harder stuff. after your wheels are brake dust free, give it a once over w/ your favorite carnuba/sealant. reapply every 2-3 months.

Re: cleaning brake dust

I only wash my car once a week, and have no "caked" on dust! Won't a wax coating make it stick more, like dust does to the paint after a wax?

Re: cleaning brake dust

WRT wax/polish, I used zaino Z2 on both the stock wheels and my new winter wheels. Highly recommend it. Brake dust build-up is less, and what remains comes off far easier than bare (literally wipes off with regular car wash- no special cleaners necessary). On my stockers, I was really pleased with one coat, but added another and found it even better. Z6 is nice to make 'em pretty afterwards- I do them after the rest of the car so there is a lot of z6 in the cloth. Now that the stockers are in the house for the winter, I'll be applying Z2 to the entire wheel, inside and out.
