windshield wiper residue?

On my front windshield, in front of the driver's seat where the passenger-side windshield wiper reaches the limit of its travel, is a line polished into the glass. Presumably, this is just fine etching from the wiper reversing its motion there, but I'm unable to polish it away when I clean the car. It's visible when the light hits it at certain angles and looks odd and annoys me. Is there any way to get rid of it?

The car's about 1.5 years old. I really only see this when it's raining and when I'm washing the car. It also starts to show up over time as the car gets dirty - the dust tends to accumulate a little differently there. I suppose it's a minor issue, but I live in the Pac-NW and it rains here for 7 months straight. So I'm always seeing this line down my windshield.

Oh, okay, what you are seeing, I have always seen on my cars after a few months, I think that is totally normal, I wouldn't be concerend about that at all, not sure why the dust shows up like that though.

I know what you are talking about. I always notice them on Nissan cars though. They are more prominent when you frequently use the wipers. The way I get rid of them is to constantly get in the habit of using a a squeegee to dry the windows. It helps but doesnt fix the problem.

I don't know about it being Nissan, I have always owned Ford's, and they always got this, you could see it when the windshield was wet and in certain sunlight too! BTW, is Nissan (Asahi) glass any different than what is made here, like PPG? I don't know if it chips easier, or if I was just unlucky, haven't had a windshield replaced in years!
