New Paint Question.....

Hey! This one is for the painters out there... After getting into an accident and wrecking my rear quater panel, I had a "homey hook up" through a freind that one day took it in and did the body work. A few weeks later was able to paint it. Paint LOOKS great, however I had to pick it up and leave quickly but before I left, the "hook up guy" said I need to "Buff it out". What happens is that it the paint is totally rough. I acted like I knew what he meant, probably because I was happy it looked great and was in a rush to leave. I waxed the whole car and it feels a little better, but what does "Buff it out" mean? Get an electric car buffer, or wax it over and over and over again?
Has this happened to anyone else here?

You need to have a shop wetsand the area smooth, the polish out the wetsanding marks with a rotary buffer to get rid of the roughness.

Thanks for the input! I wonder how difficult that is to get done. I would imagine less than actually having it painted. Thanks again!

^yes, it's not a big deal for someone that knows what they're doing.

detailer

take it to a detailer and have them do an exterior detail (polish, sealant, wax)

IMO, that won't be enough to remove significant orange peel from a new paint job.

I agree from the description we had. Sounds like heavy orange peel.

doh! remove that wax so the fresh paint can breath!

get it polished using high grit wetsand or compound (2000+)

Yeah! Get that wax off the new paint. That paint will be your worst nightmare if you don't! The paint needs at least 45 and more likely 90 days to outgass before you wax it.

sorry, your post and his blended together in my head and I thought he had already had the car wetsanded. I was saying after the wetsand if you polish I think that would give it a nice finish.

also, i've never worked on a freshly painted car, so if you're not suppose to wax it then i say go with what everyone else is aying.
