Re: clear bra on black not working

Dan....that doesn't look like the pics I've seen by others on this site.....
I wanted to have a clear bra installed on my car.....but I could not find a dealer/installer in my area...now my front bumper has been pretty chipped up due to my highway driving...so I will wait until the spring and see if I can get it repainted and then go for the clear bra..problem is people tell me you need to "cure" the paint for a month or longer...by that time my front end would be totaled again...a never ending circle!!! hope it works out for you.....2old4this

Re: clear bra on black not working

After repainting my front bumper, I waited 6 weeks before installing my clear bra. Luckily I had another car to use but I still got two small chips before the install. It can't be helped. Better to have two small ones than to be loaded with them.

All you guys need to take a hint from the Hog riders. A paint chip is a perfect excuse to paint an eagle on you tank. But ya gotta buy new chrome first!!!

Hmmm, TB G with a Vols orange T on the hood. Now we're talkin!

Re: clear bra on black not working

First of all, what you do on your car with your own money is your business, so I respect it. However I have always wondered why people do clearbar on their car..... I mean, are they going to keep their G35c forever or what?! If you drive your car on public roads, you'll eventually have some chips on front of car anyway. To me, it's something natural and you can't help it.

You spend all the money and hassle to put the clearbra on your car, then what? My G35c is now 1 year old and it has some minor road chips and I have no problem with it. It's just a damn car! After years of use, you'll have showroom condition frontend while the rest of car have some chips and ding....is that what people really want? If the frontend is so important, why not clearbra the entire car?! Is your car will be worth thousands more if you have showroom perfect frontend while the rest of car have some natural wear? I just don't get it. If you love your G35 SOOOO much, don't drive on public roads and just keep it it your garage

One of my friend had clearbar on his car and years later the frontend looked "different" from the rest of the car....I mean too perfect and not natural. Also the borderline was easily visible with different color wear. I think it does more damage in long time than does benefit. To me, totally waste of money and time. It's like keeping protective film on your Palm to protect its screen....so uncool. Let's face it...no matter how much you love your G, it's JUST A CAR and it will have some wear eventually, like any othe cloth or your house. I can't understand some people trying SO HARD to protect it like some kind of jewerly... I guess I just don't love my G enough

Re: clear bra on black not working

I understand your logic...and I respect the fact that your attitude towards this subject for the rest of us seem a bit fanatical...but in my case with my car its the opposite....I had a infiniti I35 which had 95% highway miles on it... 42,500 to be exact, before I sold it and got the G....during that time true I did get a chip and nick here and there and that I could live with...however...the front bumper of my car looked like it was taken off another car in comparison....there was not a square inch that did not have some sort of chip marr ding etc...so in a sense it did hurt my resale value a little...most people could not believe how well I took care of the car...but were always disappointed in the front ends appearance....I don't want to lock my car away in the garage by no means....I just would love to have it "age" all at the same time.... your point about the paint not matching over time is very valid...I wondered about that myself.....Its like a professional fighter...in really good shape with a face that looks like it hit a wall...nose all over the place etc...anyway I think I made my point...I guess it all comes down to what floats your boat....LOL 2old4this

I'm sorry but that just looks horrible. I've never seen a clear bra look that bad. How long is your warranty on it? You really should get that fixed or replaced

Re: clear bra on black not working

Luxman,
I understand your logic completely. BUT, I wouldn't be so concerned so much if my route to work was diffferent. The problem is that I have to drive on the 605 FWY N here in southern california....the same route as literally hundreds of gravel trucks that travel throughout the day on there way to the rock quarry's in irwindale. My '01 SS camaro looks like it got sand blasted in the front from driving to work for 2 years. I'm hoping to slow the process down with the clear bra. But I'm not happy with the bra either.

Re: clear bra on black not working

Well simple luxman

1. Do I plan on keeping it forever? Yes. I had my last car for 5.5 year and would have had it for at least 7 but it was totalled in an accident (not my fault)

2. Area I drive seems to have a lot of traffic/rocks/dirt/etc. My last car within a couple months was DESTROYED on the front end. It was chipped so bad it was useless to wax because the wax would fill the chip marks and the whole front end was spotted white. This car is darker and costs twice as much.

3. Looking different than the rest of the car? Again my last car from the a-pillar or so back was in immaculate condition. My car is always garaged and taken care of and it showed...except for the front 1/3 which was chipped all to hell. Im hoping the clearbra will take care of the front 1/3 while I take care of the back 2/3.

So due to the conditions that I drive my car in and where my car stays most the time, it made sense. I guarantee though if I bought a light colored car, I wouldn't have gotten one.

Re: clear bra on black not working

I had the guys in Torrance apply a clear bra to my Black Coupe. My coupe was one of the first black ones they had done. I will say that Edre at EDL did a great job in getting the clear bra on the car.

Does it look like the metal finish? No
Does it look like orange peel? Hell No.

There is a definate difference in the look of the front. You do notice it, and I can live with it. I have the whole front hood done for reasons of completeness rather than protection. I did not want a visible line running across the mid section of the hood. As another poster had said, I too drive the 605 N/S and 5 N/S here in L.A. everyday, so I wanted to protect my investment. My MR2's factory paint holds up against chips and the like, much better than the Coupe, but that is a different paint story.

If you stand back from the car, you can't tell its got a clear bra, go up close and you can.

If it is severe orange-peel effect, then maybe you should see if you can have a different material places on (3M).

Re: clear bra on black not working

Well I tried to take a pic but my camera was being a POS.

Anyways, the little orange peels I have are dime size or less in some areas (note the hood is perfect..this is around the bumper, etc). On part of the bumper I got a real good look at that orange peel effect in one place...I hadn't noticed it before but its obvious now when you are looking for it.

You back up 2 feet, you dont see ANY of this. Nor the bra or the line.

While I was down there I noticed a small chip in the paint too where the bra wasn't covering it. I can only imagine without the bra how bad it would look already.

So, yeah I want the mirrors fixed but as for the rest it is still better looking than having chips all over the place. Again though, since the hood is perfect it really doenst look too bad. If my hood had that orange peel effect I would definately get it replaced.

Re: clear bra on black not working

There are several reasons I recommend going w/ the clearbra on your car:

- increased resale value when time comes to sell or trade in vehicle
- repainting the bumper can easily cost $300 for the front bumper alone from a good shop
- time wasted to get those chipped parts repainted
- maintaining the "clean" look of your car
- not afraid of ignorant drivers' cutting you off & kicking up rocks onto your car

Of course, this would be conisdering the job of the clearbra is well done.

Re: clear bra on black not working

Has anyone went back to Envisage to replace their side mirror clear bra? They WERE having difficult time installing those two pieces, even though it's pre-cut. I'll probably call back in a week to schedule a redo.

Re: clear bra on black not working

well, I went back to have my bra re-installed. The orange peel look is almost all gone ...now I just have to wait till the installation bubbles are gone (may take a few weeks)..and then I'm a happy customer. One thing I could say is that Envisage has awesome customer service.

Re: clear bra on black not working

I have the clearbra on my black G and am happy with it. I guess it depends on the install and material.
