If you own an IP, DO NOT buy a 3M Clear Bra

I've heard complaints about the 3M material yellowing over time, but I was guaranteed that it would not happen when it was being installed. 3M even offers a warranty against this. Well, I've had mine on mine for about 1 1/2 years and here's what it looks like today. I'm meticulous about caring for my car such as washing and waxing regularly (this includes the bra), and it's garage kept.

I have the opportunity to have it replaced under warranty but I'm thinking about going for another brand (and shelling out more bucks). What experiences have you IP owners had?

why wouldn't you just have it replaced under warranty? also, i believe waxing a clear bra adds to the yellowing.

I've never heard about the wax causing the yellowing. I was told to treat the clearbra like paint, and to wax it regularly.

I'm not sure I want to get the bra done again with 3M. I don't want to be in the same boat in 2 more years. Also, I've moved, and if I need it fixed, I have to drive 300 miles to get it done.

Have you tried using Meguires "plastix" on it with a orbital buffer?... Try a small amount of Plastix on a small portion by hand with medium / hard pressure and see if that helps. If it does, then go o town on the rest... It couldn't hurt to try at this point.

Good Luck.

Uh... the 3m clearbra has clearcoat on it.. its not just plastic. And even the under layer isnt anything like headlight plastic. I wouldnt use plastix on it.

I have used rubbing alchohol on it before to get yellow bug stains off it. Dont rub too much, you will scratch the clear coat and make a dull spot

When I got my car with clearbra...

I was told to absolutely not use carnauba wax on the clear bra.

So I used Klasse SG for the whole car, including clear bra. Then I topped the Klasse with carnauba but only on the painted surfaces, not the clear bra. No problems at all. (Note my car is black, so any yellowing would not be as noticeable).

Ivory Pearl & Clear Bra..........?

Why spend the money to get another brand when your's is under warranty?
Have it replaced and if in another 18 months it turns yellow demand your
money back.....this way you've given 3M two chances to get it right!

screw the clear bras! I have the little side skirt clearbras for my IP G and somehow dirt got all underneath it, it looks gross and it wont come off. So im going to have to take the whole thing off, but i'm kinda nervous about getting the glue stuff off afterwards.

I live in Florida, have the 3M Clear bra on my Ivory Pearl front bumper for the last 4 years and have no complaints whatsoever. It has not yellowed and has saved me many times over. I've only heard good things about 3M. I would get it replaced under warranty.

Well, I just found another installer that will honor my warranty near me. He said that 3M changed their film last spring so hopefully, it will not yellow this time. Thanks for the advice guys.

who told you it was a clearcoat. if you mean that it is the same as paint clearcoat, that is absolutely not the case.
