Zaino Users
Zaino Users
Hey guys,
I just got my Zaino a couple of days ago and have some questions. I heard it is easy to apply and remove so that is a good thing. I was wondering when exactly to apply the Z6....After I wash my car my plan is to....Z-6,Z-2,Z-5,Z-6,Z-2,Z-5,Z-6 for two coats. Is that right or should i also apply Z-6 between the Z-2 and Z-5..?
THanks in advanced...

Re: Zaino Users
You don't need to apply the Z6 before you start your first coat. You should use the Z6 after each wash and between consecutive coats of Zaino.
You'll also get better results if you go Z5, Z6, Z5, Z6, Z2, Z6, Z2, Z6.
Basically if you're doing consecutive coats, do a couple of coats of Z5 to get the swirls and fine scratches out before you go to Z2. I did 3 or 4 coats of Z5 over a month's time before I went to Z2. Now I use Z2 unless I see swirls building up, then I do a coat of Z5. It will not harm your car to end on Z5, they just recommend always ending on Z2 for the best shine. Z5 will still shine better than just about anything else.

Re: Zaino Users
Use the z6 after a wash to remove some of the water spots left behind. z2 or z5 won't remove them but seal them because they don't contain cleaners. I also found that using z6 anytime before applying z2 or z5 will make the product go on easier.
Re: Zaino Users
You'll get the same results if you do it over a month or so but you'll get them quicker by doing them in one day. I did 2 coats my very first time due to free time. If you have time to do more coats go for it. You'll have to use ZFX if you plan on doing multiple coats in a day.
If you have water spots after your post-clay bar wash, wipe your car down with bottled water. It is true that the Z2 or Z5 will seal them in if you don't remove them.

Re: Zaino Users
ok I will not leave any water spots behind...so it is fine Trentacinque if I use your method that you reccommended of doing Z5 Z6 Z6 Z2 Z6 Z2 Z6...on the first day? is that too many coats.

I've found that Z-5 leaves a better shine on black than Z-2. I also use a quick mist of Z-6 on my applicator before I add the Z-5 or Z-2.

Re: Zaino Users
You can do as many or as few coats as you want. It's all up to you and your time. I only did 2 because of time. After you do the first application it's very simple to do more. Now after a wash I can put a coat on in under 15 minutes, wait a couple of hours to dry, and take it off in under 15 minutes. But you do want to do a quick wiping with Z6 between consecutive coats and as stated above, put Z6 on your applicator.

Re: Zaino Users
ok thanks all for the suggestions... I just Zainod my car and Im very impressed. I got one last question....Sal Zaino says to buff by hand, but do you think it better with a buffer?

Re: Zaino Users
Don't know about better, easier maybe. Then again the Zaino comes off with a lot less effort than a paste wax.

Flakey white residue from pastey waxes can kiss my butt. That's why I loved CG so much

Re: Zaino Users
Oh-- re: buffing, if you use an orbital buffer, you'll end up losing about half of the product to the pad (it soaks in). You MUST put a towel between the buffer and the car surface, and turn it often, otherwise it'll just smear. It's a bit better to do it by hand, as you won't lose so much Zaino in the proces...

Re: Zaino Users
Bought a random orbital when I bought the car, followed the Zaino directions like gospel, and returned the RO polisher and got my money back. No requirement. In fact, depending on what you're doing with Zaino (Z5 for example), counter-productive. Best tip I've seen here on the forum for Zaino is using a plastic dental syringe for dispensing. I can do the whole car (not incl wheels) with about 2/3 of an ounce, with complete confidence that I've got 100% coverage. Zaino recommends a less rather than more approach, and as stated, the RO buffer will make for a wasteful, sloppy mess that streaks and takes forever to cure. Instead of showing the results on a brand new G, check out this 1987 MR2, original paint job (so yes, showing some age), dawn, clay bar, Z5 and 2xZ2 (both with ZFX and with Z6 in between). Total product used 1.5 ounces (smaller car than the G). Still looks awesome 9 months later, btw.
