Floor mat care suggestions please

I usually don't have too many car care questions, but this one, LOL. I have a prosthetic leg, right leg, and use that foot for the accelerator, and in the process, I am very rough on the floor mat, I have the all season Infiniti mats, also had them in my '05 and I had a few chunks of rubber out of those, trying to avoid that with the new car. One thing, these mats seem lighter than the old style, and didn't really smell like rubber like the old ones, maybe they're not the same material. Anyway, if anyone may have a suggestion of something I can place there to protect the mat, I'd really appreciate it. I've tried using a piece of vinyl carpet runner, but it won't stay in place. Thanks!

Let the modding of floormats begin! If velcro wouldn't work, then maybe some sort of hook and loop contraption that you cut through the mats and attach to the bottom from 3-4 points. Would require cutting your mat, but if done correctly then you could just swap out the vinyl carpet as that gets worn instead of your whole mat!

LOL, floormat mods. That sounds interesting, I may try the velcro once more, as I notice there is some kind of "film" on the rubber, perhaps I need to prep it differently. The velcro I used is for automotive use, I've used it for many other attachment projects. Hook and loop I'll look into as well. I wish I could just replace the driver mat once it got worn, but you have to buy the entire mat set to get one! I have the winter mats from my '05 I can experiment with!

can you not just get some adhesive double sided tape from a hardware store? or do you need it readily removable

The 07-08 G35 Sedan mats are a different material than the previous years... The 03-06 Sedan / Coupe mats are a rubber like a giant pencil eraser consistency, the 07+ Sedan mats are more rigid feeling, a denser material. They are also lighter in weight. (the picture makes the mat look a lighter shade than they actually are, they are pretty much black)...

I'd like it to be removable since dirt will get under it. From what Jason has said, maybe these new mats will wear better at that point.

Tom, Try cleaning the areas where you want to stick the velcro pcs with some solvent. Try thinner or naptha.....they usually will clean the residue off from the manufacturing process. That should allow the velcro a fighting chance to adhere to the rubber/plastic.

Good luck

I think I've just about given up on this, LOL, I was looking at the "damage" to the winter mats from my '05, and it's really not that bad, after two years of wear, even though the new mats are a bit thinner, I think it will be fine to just deal with it, adding anything makes it a little less safe. Thanks for all the help here.
