ROCK CHIPS!! HELP!! Clear Bra - 3M?

Hey guys, I have an 08 G with 4650 miles on it, and it has about 20 - 25 rock chips on it!!!

WHAT THE HECK !! It is really pissing me off.

Should I get the 3M clear bra??? I have the Platinum Graphite, and it really isnt too bad, but I am pissed.

Here is what I am worried about:

The dealer said I should touch up the paint, and then put on the clear bra, which is 750 + 50.

Another independant said 475 and not to touch up the paint.

What do you guys think?

I am in Dallas, and I would like to do it myself, but I dont know if that is an option.

I am traveling 1K miles soon for work and want this decided before I go on it.

It isnt too noticeable on my paint color, but lets face it, I didnt pay almost this much for a car to have it full of chips.

Thanks again

if anyone has pics, I would love to see them.

To guarantee a perfect paint match, you should go with the dealer or dealer recommended body shop, then DEFINITELY go for the 3M clear bra after that. It is worth the investment!! Even if it costs that much.. think of the cost of having to repaint your chips over and over etc. OR if you really want to go the cheaper route, go here to get the touch up pen yourself:

www.paintscratch.com

and then get your car the clear bra after that. Think of it this way.. you already paid a lot of $ for your car, you might as well invest some $ to keep it looking new as well.

Good luck

I would get it touched up, then put the C/B on. IMO, it's a good investment for you since you tend to notice these things.

Here is the question, does anyone know how the color fade would work after 4 - 5 yrs, will the color under the 3m look better then the rest of the car???

The reason I ask, is because I keep my cars for 5 + yrs, and out Prelude had a leather bra on it, and the color does not match at all now.

Anyone own the clear bra for 5 + yrs and notice yellowing/ fading/ etc??

Just wondering...

Thanks again

i got the clear bra put on my 06 G... I read up on some placews that the paint won't fade, the guys that put it on my car also said the same... Shop around and see what kind of warranties they will give ya... EX: mine is lifetime if it begins to peel or color (i.e. turn yellow)

Oh and def. touch it up even if its with the factory paint pen, i did it on a few spots of mine then spaced it out put the bra on now the white knicks really stick out and theres nothing that i can do about it...

Thanks for the info, I looked it up everywhere, and the prices are between 475 - 750 ish... I dont know if i can afford that much..

475 guy doesnt sound legit...

I may just let it go... and deal with it, since I will get a new car before it looks horrible... I have wayyy too many chips on it now, like 40 and the bottom of the bumper is scratched (i think the dealer did it) so i am SOL i guess....

I'd take the time to repair all of the chips even if it's not perfect. It'll look way better once the clearbra is on.
I had one on my IP Maxima for 5 years with no paint changes at all. Others on here have reported yellowing. I always put some wax over them when doing the rest of the car- maybe that made a difference.
If you wanted to save $$ you couls do all of it yourself, but get a professional to do the bumper.

I install venture shield film for a living. This film is warrantied for life, against yellowing and peeling. We used to install 3m, and find the overall appearence is better with Ventureshield. From experience I would get the bumper re sprayed, let the paint cure and then have the bra installed. Full kit pricing for your car should be about $550-$650 including mirrors and lamps. If you have any questions feel free to pm me!!!!
