ventureshield/new paint

I just had my front bumper replaced, so it has new paint on it (with no chips!). The dealer told me no waxing for 90 days, which I've heard before and understand. I asked about the ventureshield clear bra to keep it 'chip free', and he said that I could have that put on anytime after 72 hours after paint was sprayed. Does that seem right? I would think the clear bra would hinder paint curing just as much as waxing (if not moreso).

I was quoted a price of 450 for the bumper only, and 590 including all of the usual areas (front of hood, sideview mirrors, etc). This seems inline with what other folks here are paying. I've had the car for 4.5 years, so I'm thinking it wouldn't be worth it to have anything more than the bumper done since the other areas have small chips already. However, what would be a reasonable cost if I asked them to do touchups of the other areas so that the other pieces could be installed and not have chips under them?

No he is absolutely wrong. Do not put the kit on for at least 30 days. If the paint is not fully cured the film could lift the clear coat off if you ever have to remove it. A good installer knows this though and shoud not put a kit on until the paint is fully cured.

Even though you can't wax new paint right away, you can use a glaze right away. Megs # 5 new car glaze is totally safe for new paint. You'll have to apply it basically every time you wash the car but at least you can keep it shiny. Also yes, no clear bra. I personally think they look worse that chips and are always dull looking. It's like ok you don't have chips now but you have a dull plastic looking front of the car. Pick your poison.

Maybe you have seen some poor kits but the ClearMask film I use is as glossy as the clearcoat on the car. I have not had one dull yet...
