Rim scuff, F$ck!

Is there anything I can do with this? I just noticed them today. I haven't hit a curb or anything. Probably a rock on the road. I cleaned them out with denatured alcohol. Was gonna put a layer of Z5 on. Any suggestions? TIA

Re: Rim scuff, F$ck!

Pffff; that's nothing. You should see the scuff on mine from a curb I couldn't see (on that note, why do our headlights suck so much? I thought HIDs were supposed to be great!?)... Anyway, I've heard of some body shops that fix stuff like that, but I'm sure it's not cheap. I'll probably have to look into it eventually myself, since I'm leasing my baby and will have to have that fixed when the lease is up (d'ohhh!). Ask some body shops in the area if they do that kind of stuff or know of anyone else that does it. Either that or see if there is anyone on these boards or e-bay that has stock rims they want to get rid of. I'm sure there are some that got aftermarket rims and don't need their stockers anymore.

Re: Rim scuff, F$ck!

that stinks. if repair is what you end up doing, then hmm. i don't know the details or the prices, but someone from the forum recommended this in one of their threads: http://www.fixrim.com/. good luck.

Re: Rim scuff, F$ck!

well, i keep telling folks, but apparently no one believes in such a simple fix: assuming that you have the stock alloy wheels and that paint damage is all you ned to fix, then go to walmart (or wherever) and pop $4 for a spray can of Dupli-Color High Performance Wheel Coating. it is an EXACT match. i had similar damage to my front wheel within my first week of ownership, stumbled on the paint and figuring i had nothing to lose gave it a try. i didn't do any sanding or prep work other that cleaning. just masked off tire, held can about 8 inches from spot and gave a quick burst then repeated times two, allowing about 15 minutes between coats. try it.

Re: Rim scuff, F$ck!

Thanks all,

I think I'll wait for a body shop until when/if I run a curb. Dupli-color huh? sounds like it worth a try. These are really minor but annoying. Sounds like it may do the trick.

Thanks again.

Xman
I had a pretty good size curb rash on my front rim a while back, I was able to match the paint pretty well with a mix of Testors model paint....but the cuts were too deep to hide the damage completely....

I had a place by me fix my rim for around $100 but believe me my rim was a whole lot worse than yours....The coupe 18" rims are harder to match color wise...so I opted for the Professional repair....the picture isn't too clear but the repair was made from about 9:00 up to about 1:00 on my rim....

Hope this helps......2old4this

Re: Rim scuff, F$ck!

on friday my rear tire went flat. i thought i had to plug the tire. when i went to have it plugged the guy told me the rim is bent and its not the tire. i was like, what the f. damn potholes. anyway, he told me of a body shop in elizabeth, nj that fixes rims. i went there yesterday but it was closed. im going back on monday. the spare looks disgusting. i was told its about 50-100 bucks a rim. its called, auto collision experts. 908-352-5991. 311 magnolia ave. if you are interested pm me and ill let you know how it works out.

Re: Rim scuff, F$ck!

Yeah man I have big gauges on my rims. I have never driven a car daily with over 17" wheels so I wasn't used to it. I will repaint my wheels soon.

Thanks - Joey Avino

Re: Rim scuff, F$ck!

Joey,

I've never driven even 17in rims. My G is arriving at the end of April and I was wondering what there is to get used to?

Thanks,
-Chris

Re: Rim scuff, F$ck!

xman -- your lucky they actually were able to match the paint on your rim. Every place i went to said that they couldn't match it and they said it would look totally different. There was one place that could do it but they were charging $300 to fix it and so i didn't get it fixed.

Re: Rim scuff, F$ck!

I was very skeptic at first when my dealer told me they could do the repair....
I had checked with several on-line places and all but one said they could not match the color exactly, and I was better off getting both the wheels on that side painted so it wouldn't be as noticeable...

I was not about to have a perfectly good wheel repaired, so I gave the dealer a shot...
It was done by Alloy Wheel Specialists, they are located in Neptune, N.J.

The repair was limited only to the lip of my rim...if it would have been on the spokes as well,I probably wouldn't have risked it.....
