Rock Chips on front bumper? Just me?

Is anybody else having a lot of trouble with getting all kinds of rock chips on your front bumper. I know it's normal to have some, it's going to happen, but mine is getting a little ridiculoius. Is there anything I can do to prevent that besides a bra? I even have little ones making their way up the hood. I can't stand looking at them. Should my bumper be chipping that easily? I'm almost tempted to take it to the dealership and show them. What do you guys think? Is it just happening to me or what? It's so depressing seeing such a beautiful ride look like that. I'm new to this forum stuff so let me know what's up. E-mail me directly at jlipton@indiana.edu

Peace!
Josh

Josh-

Hey man, I feel your pain. I had my coupe for three weeks and already found a few small nicks. There is only two things that you can do:

1.) Get some touch up paint and fix the chips you have, then GET A CLEAR BRA. I'm not sure why you are asking for a solution other than the bra. There isn't one. Our paint is far too soft to expect it to not chip. The clear bra is expensive, but believe me...it's worth the investment if you care about your ride.

2.) Repaint your bumper every year. After reading the previous sentence, I hope you'll see that option one is the smart idea!

I have the same problem. But its too late for a clear bra. Just look at these pictures. It first thought something was on my paint, but now I find its all paint chips. I even used a clay bar on the area I took the pictures.

I had a clear bra installed on my coupe today. Cost was $495.00 and based upon the pictures above the clear bra will be worth every penney.

Come on, in this pic, some of the stuff is reflection off the road/parking lot! Are these actually through the paint, or do they show up more from getting wax in them? If so, maybe you could find a nice soft detail brush and try to remove some of it. And I also wonder where you live, that looks very typical for NM, that's why I have started to stay away from dark colored paint! My silver car doesn't show chips at all, the black valence on the front does have some "pitting" on it, but you really only notice it when washing the car, way too much sand blowing around here.

Man...I thought for sure that the chips would show less on a darker car like black or diamond graphite.....

I have almost 8,500 on my car now and its getting pretty messed up on the lower bumper below the grilles.....I do pretty much 70-80mph highway miles everyday so I try my best to keep a clear lane if front of me or lots of distance so I can keep the chips to a minimum....

I know if I keep the car for a few years the front will have to be repainted.....just the way it goes in good ol New Jersey....
and this year they really went easy on sanding the roads during the winter months....so I got off easy.....2old4this

Fastblack, on the last pic, what is that big splotch, if it's that big, almost looks like a stone hit it, that's huge!

Re: Rock Chips on front bumper? Just me?

HOWI,

I've had my entire front end clear bra'ed (hood "nose," head lights, lower bumper, side-view mirrors, and even rear wheel fender arches behind the rear doors). NOW I'm getting pitting above the clear bra on the hood! I might have the entire hood done as I too think the paint is WAY to soft. But I gotta tell ya, where the car has clear bra, there is no chipping or pitting at ALL! I'm a beleiver...
