How did you start detailing for money?

I know many of you have gone from a freak about cleaning your car to the point where you actually make a few bucks doing it for clients. How did you make that shift?

I don't want to do it a lot, because I still work full-time and want to keep this still sort of a hobby...and most of all so I don't get burned out to the point that I don't want to keep the G clean. But a few cars here and there, afternoons and weekends kind of thing. I'd love to hear others stories...

My progression started off when I picked up an Audi S4 and researched some higher end products. I ended up spending around $800 for my opening order through various vendors, detailed my car and realized how big of a difference proper technique and high quality products made. I decided to start detailing for some close friends and family on the weekends. I had a great full time job out of college, but my area lacked a high end detailer and word quickly got around that I was the one to goto for high quality details. I was very passionate about cars, especially higher end ones, and soon after that we formed Detailed Image, and made auto detailing my career. Detailed Image originally started off primarily as just doing details, then in time, my passion for educating others on how to detail turned Detailed Image exclusively into supplying enthusiasts with auto detailing supplies.

If you're looking to do it part time, I'd advise you to be selective on the vehicles you work on, and keep your work as high end as possible.

Best of luck on your business venture, and if there's anything I can give you a hand with, please do not hesitate to contact me.

George
