Wheel polishing and clearing coat!

Wheel polishing and clearing coat!
Long story short. I have the clear coat on my alloy wheels removed then polished them with that Mothers Polishing kit. Nice and clean now, questions are should I put the clear coat on or leave them be? And if go with the clear coat, will the clear coat attach to the wheels with a polishing coating on already? Thanx.
