50/35 tint done -- Pics

OK, so the tint is complete and I love it. 50% on the doors and 35% on the three rears. 50% will get me less legal hassles and still looks quite nice.

I put some pics of how this particular shop handles the heavy dot matrix at the top of the rear glass. The adhere a strip of black vinyl to cover the area so no bubbles show. You can't see it from inside unless you are looking aft from below the rearview mirror.

Check the pics:

50 looks a lot like 35, and at night you can't tell the difference.

Inside looking back. You can't even see the strip at all from the rearview mirror.

Shader, LOL, are you a contortionist, how did you get that shot? Bet you had to be in a weird position!

If you like that look, then great but they should have been able to either wetsand the dots or use a gel like substance with regular tint.

Heh ABQ, my digi has a screen that flips around, no contorting necessary.

Al, sanding or scraping the dots often leaves debri, scratches, or other defects that also create problems, and the gels don't promote adhesion as well as the films.

About the look, since you cant see it from the outside or front seats, and actually looks stock from the rear seats if you decide crane your neck around to look above and behind your head, I really think it's a non-issue.

That's a nice tint job, Shader7. I noticed in your signature that you listed having a Navi. Has the tint adversely effect your Navi system. That is one of the concerns that I have in deciding whether to tint or not to tint.

Looks like my car exactly, except for the front lip. Good choice

Are you using black tint on your coupe? Does the tint affect your vision at all or hamper your driving?

Re: 50/35 tint done -- Pics

Great Job......Thanks for the pics and information.....
I think the 50/35 combination looks really good.....In New Jersey where I live some police will really hassle you with tinted windows....But it seems from your pictures you still have fairly good vision into the car which means if they (the Police) can see you, they will probably leave you alone.....

I don't mind the vinyl strip on the rear window.....from your pics it doesn't even seem to be noticeable.....

My main concern with window tinting is the premature scratching and dis-coloration associated with the product....
I'm also a little skeptical about the film adhereing on the bottom of the front windows due to the "auto downward motion" when you open and close our doors.....

Thanks again for all your information....when I go to the ATCO meet on April 25th here in New Jersey I'll check out some of the members tint jobs and get some additional feedback from them as well
Thanks again Shader7
Dennis

Re: 50/35 tint done -- Pics

Thanks everyone. To answer some questions:

I used the 3M non-metallic tint. Lifetime color and peel guarantee, and it's transparent to Navi and Radio frequency signals. My Navi and radio are working perfectly.

No problem seeing out at night through the 50T. I notice a difference though, if I roll down the window. I've had other cars with 35T and 25T on the doors, and to be honest, unlit bicycles and pedestrians were hard to see out the sides.

The auto-rollup is accounted for during the install. They disable the feature when working on it, so the bottom of the film is in the correct place when the window rolls back up. My installer has done several G's before and has had no problems yet.

Re: 50/35 tint done -- Pics

My installer did the vinyl as part of the job (Rocky Mountain Windowtint, Livermore, CA).

The whole job looks great!
