Jacking up the car Question

I need to put the car up on jack stands and am wondering if it can be done with the factory jack. Would it be safe to jack up one side and put a jack stand in, then jack up the other side and put in the other jack stand or would the car fall when trying to jack up the second side?

Anyone try it before? thanks.

I'd highly recommend buying a floor jack.

It's faster, safer, and easier.

You should be able to pick up a 2 ton for fairly cheap...

a 3 ton lift will usually lift a lot higher, which you might like better.

a floor jack would be a lot faster. you can jack up one side at a time but i don't recommend you using the factory jack to do that because i don't think it can get high enough for you to slide a jack stand under there. 2 ton jack stands should be fine

Like everyone has stated, Do Not Use the Factory Jack. It is simply meant for an emergency tire change.
Its a good idea to keep a piece of 2X4 or a brick in the car. This way, if you need to jack up your car, you will be lifting the jack up a couple of inches off the ground, making sure you don't extend the jack so much.

A few people have had this jack bend under full extension.....so It would be a complete risk to say the least.

Get a decent floor jack, and make sure you chock the opposite wheel from the side your going to jack up. This will make sure you and your car will be safe from any unexpected shift or rolling of the car.
Good Luck

I bought a jack at SEARS a couple years back when I bought my winter tire/rim set up.....

The one I purchased is a low profile style, and it fits under the car quite easily. I think I paid $150 with a couple of coupons/discounts.

Attached is an old pic I took when I first put on my snows. This will at least show you the profile next to my car.
