Should I expect better gas mileage by replacing this?

So yesterday you all saw my filthy cabin filter...well today I replaced my stock air filter and intake tube with a K&N and a Z-tube. I don't think the previous owner changed it once. My car only has 35K miles.

Tell me it shouldn't be that black.

I haven't even owned the car for 2500 miles so this is my first time inspecting it.
