paying $495 for tinting!!!
paying $495 for tinting!!!
Hi,
I had my windows tinted couple weeks ago, and the tint didn't turn up too good. The shop I went was in the middle of a very poor neighborhood and was very very ghetto. When I arrived there I was going to leave, but the owner kept saying that he can do a perfect job and that he had 18 years of experience with tinting windows. I wasn't really feeling comfortable getting my windows tinted at such a shop, but I decided to trust this guy (he was also from my native country, so I thought it would be nice to give him some business).
Well the tint turned up so messed up, it makes me want to sell the car. There are couple finger marks on the driver and passenger side windows, but the real problem is my rear windshield. From the outside it looks fine except that the whole matrix strip on the top is white and ugly. But from the inside you can see lots of wrinkles and it still looks like the job hasn't settled in.
Now I have to pay $120 to get the rear tint steamed off and another $175 to put some Llumar tint on. Would you mind posting your opinions if I should go ahead with this? The total I would be paying for tinting my windows is $495. Does anyone know if steaming off the tint would save the defroster from getting damaged?
Also I don't feel like going back to the original place that I got my tint, because its so dangerous and dirty there. Its so ghetto, they need to keep the door locked until a customer knocks and shows their face. I dont know why I got my windows tinted here. This is what I get for trusting someone from my native country. bastard!

Not sure where you live but if it is in Orange/LA county there is a place called Wintech. They have a mobile service and will do your tint while you are at work. Lifetime warrantee. Think they charged me about 130-140.

Too bad you're not in Cali, coulda helped you out here. Let this be a lesson for everyone thinking about getting their windows tinted. Many people take window tinting for granted until the job turns out to be horrendous to say the least.
This time, take it to a professional shop...........how to tell? Here are some tips:
- Location: very important as you already found out
- Shop's interior / exterior decour
- Over the years, more and more shops are certifying their installers...........ask to see if they've been certified.
- Ask about their experience w/ your car (e.g. what do they do about the coupe's windows slipping up and down when opened and closed)
- Ask them what they could do about the dot matrix on the top edge of the glass.
- Are they using one piece films for the rear glass
- What's their warranty on labor & parts
After you got some answers for these questions from your local shops, feel free to pm me w/ their answers...............and I'll give you some feedback. Hopefully, the next time around, teh job is near perfection.
One more thing to keep in mind. Once the rear tint is removed, there will be a lot of leftover adhesives...........this will make it more difficult for teh shop to come out w/ a clean job. Basically, you have to be even more careful which shop you select now.................

Cali isnt the only place - Long Island NY has all the cool auto stuff you need. - Maybe you should trade the G in for a John Deere

i live in the chicago-land area. i got my windows tinted at pilsen auto glass. cost me $180 for all 4 windows and the rear. lifetime warranty on the tints (bubbling, peeling, etc.). I got 21% Maddico. they did an amazing job in about 4 hours. give them a call, they might remove your old tints if you get new tints from them.

Re: paying $495 for tinting!!!
Ximer, I live in Chicago as well and had my windows tinted 35%. DO NOT go to any joe schmoe shop for tinting. Try Ziebart (now a lot of them are called Z-tech) for tinting. I got mine done there and they have by far the most experienced tinters in the business. They guarantee their work for the life of the car and if there are ANY bubbles or other problems they will fix or redo the tint at no charge because of their guarantee. Never get tint anywhere else. It cost me $275 to get my whole car done and it looks great (you can see pics of my car in my rides section).

Jeremy,
I'm in the North Chicago burbs and was wondering if you'd had any problems with the police and tinted windows? I'd like too get mine done and would appreciate any feedback. Do you have the phone number of the place that did yours. Thanks in advance,
Andrew.
