1st time polishing headlights

I got my polish pads and meguiars plastic polish to do my headlights. It will be my first time and wanted to know if theres anything special i need to know?

I'm going to tape off the areas around the headlights.

What should I use? a drill or what? Is there some kind of Dremel type thing that would be easier to use? The pads I got said they should be used at 1300-1750 RPM not to exceed 3000 rpm.

thanks guys.

i think itd be much easier for you to use a random orbital for plastics.

Yeah. When I polished my headlights, I used a RO machine. Its used to polish and wax paint, but does so in a manner where its almost impossible to burn paint. Pretty safe for novice users and does a much better job than by hand ever could. You can get one at walmart for less than $20 bucks. Its no where near as good as one from Porter Cable, but if you don't have $150 to spend, then its a good alternative.
