Highest Quality Tint
Highest Quality Tint
I am getting my G tinted next weekend. I am going to a shop in Torrance California that was recommended by a friend. I plan to get it tinted dark which cuts light to 20 percent I think. My friend told me to LUMAR tint and that it's the Best. He told me it has metal in it instead of just being dyed or tint film. Does anyone know of anything better than LUMAR? I want the highest quality possible. I don't want any fading bubbling or turning purple. I was figuring on spending around $200-250 for it. Does anyone know of a really reputable shop in the Long Beach area of So Cal. that does excellent work?

I don't have any shop recommendations for you. However, you should be aware that tinting your back window with a metal-content film may affect your radio reception. Some people have reported a slight loss of FM reception quality.

Hey redrok8... basiclly waht I have gathered is that each tinting place has their own kinda "premium tint" .. all tinting places ive been to theese days have full livetime warrenty against bubbling tint so you can get it replaced if it does bubble... also, when tine turns purple its because people washed their windows with like windex with ammonia.. that causes the purple.. if you have the right stuff to wash car windows with .. it wont turn purple....
also, a note on metallic tints.. I have them on my G.. love it.. alot better than dye-based tint inmy opinion... its dark looking inside, but light looking from the inside out.. i also noticed it takes 3 times as long to dry versus dye-tints...
anyways.. im sure you will like it.. i like my tint alot..

Re: Highest Quality Tint
I'd be interested in the same. I've done several searches and I haven't found anything definitive yet.
I would also suspect results may vary depending on if you are in the big city vs. out-in-the-sticks.

My 0.02..
I agree with pesti, each tint shop has their own premium brand, the shop I used has Formula One, $200 for 5 windows, lfetime guarantee against fading, bubbling, yada, yada, yada. It was also a metal content film that looks dark from the outside but very light when looking from inside to out.
I tell people tint is like oil, if you're only gonna keep the car for only a few years (2-4), use the conventional stuff, if you keep it for life like I do, use the good stuff. The regular tint normally has a 5-year guarantee anyway so you're covered.
FM reception didn't seem to change with my metal-content film, but AM reception had a significant fall-off. I only use AM for Friday-night D.O.T. traffic advisories anyway, so no big deal.

Re: Highest Quality Tint
I don't have have any FM drop off at all. I do get a little AM drop off. Not enough to matter for the most part. The spots where I get static I get a little more, that's it.

Oh, and here's another question... which brand metallic tint are ya'll using? According to Valentine1's website, some of them can degrade radar detector performance, as well.
