california car duster...

I just bought a california car duster but I'm reluctant to use it. Can I be really be sure that there will be no scratches done to the paint?

Also, has anyone tried the California water blade? It seems like it would work fantastic on windows but using the blade on paint?? Even though I do wash down the car with soapy water, there's always still a lil bit of dirt or particles stuck on the paint. I mean if I owned a ford escort, i'll be more than happy to use it.

Also, do you guys use the microfiber towels to dry too? not being a cotton product, seems like the water doesn't really soak up after the towel is wet and you're really just spreading water everywhere.

Re: california car duster...

Cali duster is fine to use as long as your car is clean, and you're just dusting it. Don't use it after it rains, etc. Just use it if it's been sitting in the garage and has a bunch of dust on it.

Cali water blade is fine to use on paint IF you have really cleaned the car thoroughly. If you aren't fanatical about your cleaning process, you can end up getting a nice scratch if you drag bird poop or something with the blade.

Microfibers are more for a washing/application/buffing role thatn just drying. I've successfully used about three small ones to dry my entire car, but mine may just be magic. Check out a product called The Absorber or something similar. Nothing harsh in any way.

I use my Cali duster 2-3 times per week with no problems. I have had my Coupe 3 weeks and I have only washed it twice with 550 miles on it. I use Mequiars Quick Detailer after I dust it to get the bugs off. No scratches here.

I use my duster twice a day! Twilight blue, midwest spring, pollen and dust is unbelievable. I've never gotten any scratches from the duster.

Haven't tried the blade yet. I just bought a new high quality chamois two or three weeks ago and it does a really excellent job of drying. I can dry the whole car bone dry and only wring once when I'm just about finished.

Re: california car duster...

the duster works great. i only use it if i've washed and CGed the car. but if i see dirt, like after rain or a mud splash, then forget about it.

i use several small microfibers for drying. i also have the cali waterblade, but i've held off on using it lately because the microfibers are doing such a good job.

I've been using duster for 6 months, no problems. For wash, I use MF mitts and Big Blue Towel: http://www.properautocare.com/wash---dry.html

Re: california car duster...

I've used the water blade on my last car (3000GT VR4) and now the G. Not once have I ever seen a scratch as a result of using the water blade. I mainly use it to remove the larger areas of standing water and then use a 100% cotton towel to dry the rest. I haven't tried the microfiber waffle towel but I know other microfiber towels I've used become frayed from my hands because they are a little rough.

If you clean your car well and don't rush through, the water blade is your best friend (just used mine last night before 3 coats of Zaino).

Re: california car duster...

I've been using the California Water Blade for years, and it's never scratched any of my cars. My friend also uses it on his BMW M3 and Porsche Boxster. I used to use the duster, on one of my previous cars and didn't have any problems either. All of the products coming from the California Car Cover Company are pretty good. They are a bunch of car fanatics themselves, so they wouldn't sell anything that wouldn't work or be damaging to your car.

Duster is great except that even after 10 months or so, it still leaves some wax streaks on my black coupe.

Re: california car duster...

I used this before..it worked okay...and it leaves part of the fabric on my car..so instead of dust..I have red strings on my car..

so now I jus use a microfiber towel..
