Polishing wheels, etc.

Alright guys, I got my Porter Cable and my Lake Country orange pads. Did my headlights today and they look frickin' amazing. This thing is awesome.

Since I didn't ruin my headlights, I want to do more. Could I use my Porter Cable to do my wheels? Is this a horrible idea? If not a bad idea for a novice, what pad or whatever would I use for wheels? And secondly, is it easy to ruin wheels polishing them. I have some OEM 19's on right now.

I would not polish the OEM 19's. I'm not 100% sure there is even a clearcoat there, it may just be this special silver paint coating. I would stick to claybaring them and making sure they have a good coating of sealant

I'd be careful. Because all the metallic finishes for Infiniti are two stage. black over some translucent silver plus clear (I think)

If you burn though the silver, you will see the black under it. Bad. Plus there are WAY to many sharp arsed edges to really do anything. If you want to polish, do it by hand.

The P215 is pretty amazing stuff. It is what I use on my wheels.

What about my ARC titanium strut bar? Does anyone polish titanium?

What's P215? All I got on a search were tires and a British submarine.

clay barring wheels is a good idea, specially if you have particularly stubborn brake-dust caked in... i would also recommend using a good wheel sealant (i.e. wheel wax), as it will protect your wheels and make them easier to wash the next time... good luck...

He meant P21S; they have an APC wheel cleaner. I would just do a polish by hand; check every pass to make sure paint residue is not coming off and if it is; stop.

Try a cleaner/mild abbrasive first like Klasse AIO and then go to a polish on a foam applicator pad. You do NOT need to polish if there is no marring (scratches) though.
