Buffer for waxing

Buffer for waxing

So I was thinking that it would be better and less work to wax my car using a automatic buffer. However, I have heard from other car enthusiasts that 1. you could mess up your car bad by putting swirl marks on it. 2. That it's usually done by hand anyway.
I have to ask why, especially in cases where you want to put 2 or 3 coats of wax on your car. Any thoughts on this...
