Sap!
Sap!
How do u get rid of this crummy stuff? Little bits of clear looking dots all over car, washed it once, but not much success. Wax doesn't seem to do the trick either. Perhaps I need to wash again because I didn't wash very hard with the sponge the first time (didn't realize I had any sap until after I cleaned the car). Thanx for any suggestions.
Re: Sap!

Re: Sap!
Dude, it's mad easy to get rid of tree sap. Car washes and wax don't work at all. But just purchase a Bug & Tar remover (a few dollars at your local mart in the auto section), and it will come off easier than spelling the word 'sap'. Good luck. =)

Re: Sap!
Just get a clay bar. I use it all the time, when the wife parks under a tree . A lot less effort than Bug & Tar remover, as that actually requires a bit of elbow grease . Besides, the clay bar will get all that other crap off your paint too...
Re: Sap!
Okay I have the same problem, but I tried sap remover, tar remover, clay bar, and finger nails, nothing will cut it!

91% Isopropol Rubbing Alcohol, that's all you need, works great, and it's cheap!

Re: Sap!
I have 4 ugly yellow spots on my silver hood that I can't get rid of (not sure if it's sap or pollen or something else, and I rarely park under trees, so I'm baffled), but I've tried everything I can think of under the sun--Dawn soap, clay bar, bug & tar remover, 91% Isopropyl Alcohol, Tarminator, Meguire's Clear Coat Prep & Swirl Reducer--NONE of it will get it off!? I'm at wits end here. Is there ANYTHING else I haven't thought of? Please help!

Re: Sap!
Your's sounds more like a birds**t problem, do you remember getting any birds**t on the hood recently? Or perhaps someone had spilled something, is that possible? Sap usually doesn't leave a permanent mark like that from my experience!

Re: Sap!
I don't remember getting any bird s*** on that part of my car lately. I've never had a problem getting birds s*** off my cars' paint in the past though, so I doubt that's it. As for the possiblity of someone spilling something, your guess is as good as mine.

Re: Sap!
Are you able to post a pic of those spots? I have seen a lot in my years of weird things on car paint, maybe I can tell what it might be.

Re: Sap!
I tried to take some digital pics, but they did not come out clearly because of glare, no matter where I took the pic. I'll try taking some in the evening some time and see if that works.

Re: Sap!
Well, I took it to a body shop (one I've used twice before) and they tried some stuff that didn't work, then did some wet sanding and buffing and got whatever this stuff was off, BUT it went through the clear coat in a couple spots, so now I have two dark (grey) spots on my silver hood that look worse than before!? Now I'm pissed. Obviously they didn't charge me for anything, but I am convinced the paint jobs on our cars are crap! Anybody think I can convince a dealer to have the hood repainted under warranty? This s*** just shouldn't happen on such a new car (those guys at the shop were gentle on the paint too when they were trying to get the spots off)!

Re: Sap!
That's too bad that happened, I didn't think you could wet sand clearcoat, the clearcoat is thin, and not just on Infiniti. I don't know, maybe if you had run it by the dealer before this and showed them the spots I would think there would be a possibility of getting the hood repainted, but I don't know since you took it to a shop and they tried that, can't hurt to check into it though.

Re: Sap!
I've seen the wet sand thing done effectively on auto TV shows, so I wasn't terribly concerned initially. However, the body shop guys also saw something I never noticed before--there are many (tiny) rust-looking spots scattered throughout the hood (you have to look real close in the right light to see them). They said it might be what they call "industrial fallout." Anyone know what that is? I assume it's a byproduct from the factory or the shipping process (?).
