newbie washing/waxing questions

sorry, this is going to be dumb. i just got my g and it is the 1st car taht i am willing to spend the effort to take car of it myself. i went to pep boys and found i had 0 clue what to get to take care of the ext. every car i have had before, i would just take to the car wash. i really love the tb color on my coupe and want to make the shine last as much as possible. so...

1. what should i wash the car with?
2. after wash, i can just wax with something like zaino?
3. what should i use to dry the car?

i bought some chomios (spelling) and it rains here ALOT. can i just wipe the rain drops off with the chamios when the car is 1/2 dry and 1/2 wet or will that scrath the paint?

any help or feedback would be appreciated.

weaksauce... since you have twilight blue (as high maintenance as black), you should look up previous threads in this forum titled "how to avoid swirls," "how to take care of a black G," and etc. i'm headed out the door soon so i can't type it up, but those threads give good washing tips in detail.

1. dawn the first time and non-stripping soap for subsequent washes
2. zaino sounds great, even though it's not what i use
3. microfiber towels, the absorber, and/or cali water blade, leaf blower (if you've got one)

i'm not sure about chamois, since i use microfiber on my black car. happy cleaning.

Dude invest in the full Zaino kit (car wash, polish, etc.). After you've put on a few coats of Zaino, you'll seriously have trouble wiping off that big grin on your face.

Re: newbie washing/waxing questions

BTW I've been using chamois on my last car (black) and the G and I don't think there have been any problems.

Have fun!

is that what you are talking about? How many uses would i get out of that kit? Can i use everything in it? Was there something in the 115 dollar kit that is missing from that one that i would need. just so u dont have to go to the link if u dont wanna, i'll post whats in it for $85 kit

ZFX™ Flash Cure Accelerator Additive
Z-2™ Show Car Polish for Clear Coated Car Finishes
Z-5™ Show Car Polish for Swirl Marks and Fine Scratches
Z-6™ Ultra Clean Gloss Enhancer Spray
Z-7™ Show Car Wash
Z-18™ ClayBar

someone said that i shuld use crystal gaurd on my car because my car is still pretty new. I noticed that i already have a lot of little very fine scratched apearing on my car. I want to prevent anyy more of them and maybe kind of mask them if possible. Trying not to spend 85 dollars on car wash stuff (that doesnt look like it'll last through a large number of washes).

I am looking for

a carwash soap
a sealant/wax (zaino or CG?!)
leather care products
and maybe a claybar product

anything else that im forgetting? the reason i dont really feel the zaino kit is justified is because it just comes with tons of polishes and stuff.... and its not like i am entering my g into car shows or something.............what do u guys think?

Re: newbie washing/waxing questions

weaksauce,
Regarding your questions, I recommend the following:

Item #1: Meguiars Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo and Conditioner

Item #2: Initially use Meguairs Generation Tech Wak, and for in-between touch-ups, use Meguairs Spray Wax.

These two products will leave an unbelievable gloss on your car, they are very easy to apply and remove, and are all relatively inexpensive!!!

Oh, forgot, use a high-quality deerskin chamois to dry your car.

Oh, and one more - - never wash your car in full sunlight...
