Water spots on glass

I recently ended up having to buff my car with my new PC due to water spots. Damn I will never do a quick wash job agian! Anyways I was able to get most of the water spots off of the car, still some etching left on the hood, roof, and trunk lid. I now would like to get the water spots off the glass. I already tried the distilled white vinegar, this did not work. Any one have any ideas for removing water spots on the glass?

Re: Water spots on glass

Try and use some chrome polish, that seems to work well on the glass, I've used it before with very good results! Did you try a clay bar on the body spots?

Watered down vinegar, or something acidic works the best on glass.

Try Bon Ami. It doesn't scratch and does a great job of cleaning your windshield. I have used it for years.

Re: Water spots on glass

I don't know if the spots actually are "etched" into the glass (I know they appear that way), maybe they will after continually getting wet and left dry. I had a window in my house that had several years of getting hit by a sprinkler (our water is extremely hard here) and I got the glass pretty clean using the chrome polish! Also, when I first moved into my house, the shower door was spotted very badly, I got it clean using an orbital buffer and rubbing compund!

Good Ideas, I think I will try the clay bar and see what it does and compare that with the chrome polish thing, since I planned on getting the polish anyways. I will post my results! Is it safe to use orbital with compound on the cars glass? I would think this would leave scratches. Any reccomendations for a decent local store buy for chome polish? Thanks for the tips guys!

Re: Water spots on glass

Griots also makes a glass polish that works wonders! I actually use it on my shower doors when they start getting cloudy n etched. The Griots stuff takes it right out! Normally I just use a a bug sponge (sponge with the mesh around it for removing bug residue) and some Griots polish on the doors, and poof, it's gone! Just becareful what you use on your windshield b/c of streaking etc.
Good Luck!

Re: Water spots on glass

Try waxing your windows to remove the water-spots. Then, wax them on a routine basis - - keeps the spots away!!!!

Works for me!

Re: Water spots on glass

I just tried the clay bar on a small spot tonight, looks like it will work!) I will continue to do the rest of the car tomorrow and try the chrome polish as well. By the way the stoners glass spray did not help with the water spots, looks like it is a high end glass cleaner that does not leave any residue or streak.

Re: Water spots on glass

I tried using mothers chorme polish on the spots but it did not work for me. I ended up using the clay bar. I really had to rub the clay bar very hard in order to get these spots off of the glass PIA, but it did work!

Believe it or not... RustAid... found at any homedepot does wonders for people with hardwater and spots on windows..... even for your sprinkler leftovers on you house.... Don't know why either but it works....

Airwolfe, geez, where do you live, it sounds like your water is harder than our's, and this is pretty hard!

Re: Water spots on glass

razor blades can clean just about anything off of glass. Just keep the blade flat against the glass. don;t use it on the interior though. The shape of the glass tend to not agree with a flat razor balde and the edges can scratch the glass.
