What pads for porter Cable

What pads for porter Cable

Looking at this kit on Eshine.ca that comes with the porter cable, backing plate and selection of 3 pads.

Which ones should I go with? I know it depends on what I want to do but what 3 are the most versatile? Thinking yellow blue and white?

Also how long will one of these pads last, how many times can I wash it and reuse it before it falls apart?

Think I went with orange, yellow and white. Depends what kind of shape your paint is in. Heavy swirls? More aggressive pads (and product).

it says your choice of CCS pads so i would go with

orange (light cut), white(polish) and blue(finess) .. yellow is a lil too aggressive

it really depends on what polish and compound you use, how bad your swirls are

i think you should get by .. my 04 coupe clear is pretty soft and cleared up very nicely

pads will last a few FULL car polish's .. there is no exact time when they will fall apart .. so far ive gotten 3-4 full car polish's out of my pads .. and they are cheap enough to buy more .. i have so many pads and i dont know what to do with them

ok, so I had to go check, I actually have orange, white and black. teach me for counting on my (failing) memory.

I use a different brand of pad, but I'm on maybe 6 full car polishes and they seem fine. I like flat pads better, CCS pads make no sense to me.

I would go with Orange, white, and blue. We have relatively soft clear coats, and if you need more cut you can always order yellow. I did this car with the equivalent of orange and white, but it was via rotary. It was about 85-90% correction, I wasn't going for 100.

I may have gotten orange and yellow mixed up :s I am pretty sure I am going with Orange, white and either black or blue, maybe I'll get more than one finishing one and see how it works as well.

Thanks for the tips guys, I am going to do this order soon hopefully!

I might have a job at a Subaru dealer cleaning up cars when they come in on wholesale and what not so I am hoping I will be able to carry everything I have learned on my G to that job

You'll use a lot of white pads for sure In my opinion the infiniti's and nissans that I have worked on have hard clears, you'll be using white pads for your one step polish and an orange and white for a two or more step polish process. It will take you longer to accomplish a good polish but it will be worth it in the end.

blue is awesome because it can also double up as an applicator

Also, make sure you get at least two of each pad. It's not recommended that you use the same pad for your entire vehicle.

I use 4" and 5" pads exclusively with the PC now. The PC just doesn't have enough power to properly break down polishes using 6"+ pads in a reasonable amount of time. As far as brand, I use LC and cyclo 4" pads, and Danase 5" CCS pads.

Hai, have you tried using a Flex yet? IMO, it's a far superior machine over the PC.

That is what I keep hearing, but my detailing has dropped off significantly this year due to new hobbies, so I can't justify the investment. I am well aware of the deficiencies in the PC already though, when it takes 10+ hours to do a decent polish job on a single car, even with the smaller pads

Nikku, I'm sending you a PM.

Thanks for everyone elses advice as well.

I polished my passenger side yesterday (previous owner liked to park in bushes I guess?) And it had lots of really light scratches and what not. I used my $30 Simoniz battery powered polisher and it worked half decent. Can only imagine the better results with the PC.

Unfortunately didn't take before pics because I was skeptical it would even work haha. going to do the other side soon though so I'll get pics of that.
