So i walk outside and almost cry..

Ok, so i am not great at detailing, keeping my car in showcar condition, etc etc... but i wash it regularly try to keep it looking good.

So i walk outside today and it looks like someone took a spray paint can to my wheel...(Reference picture)

You cant see it from far away but as I got to my door at first i thought it was really heavy dirt or brake dust or something but looked like liquid based on the pattern. Wouldnt wipe off... so i took to car wash(this is why wet in picture) and used soap...nothing... use rim cleaner...nothing. WTF is this?! Did someone just own me?

*Any ideas on how to clean this would also be appreciated*

That looks like the black basecoat used under the topcoat of the wheels. This happens sometimes when people use harsh spray on wheel cleaners on the wheels when trying to clean them. Have you tried some new wheel cleaner recently?

Yeah i suppose i have but didnt notice any difference at the time.. So is it worth it for me to get a new topcoat put on or just buy a new wheel? Will a normal body shop do your rims for you or do I need to find a specialty shop?

A wheel repair place can probably do it for $90-$125? Best to call some local places because that's what you'll end up doing

I think you might have drove over something weird...

Get them powder coated a nice colour of your choice. Most places will do it for around $50 bucks a wheel. $200 plus some 25mm spacers and it will give the car a whole new look. What ever happened may have just done you a favor!

What that is is the work of a very acidic wheel cleaner that was left to sit for too long. As you can tell, it was a liquid that damaged the wheel just based on how the damage is dispersed, notice how it just looks like black water on the wheel. That's where the acid sat. It's possible that you ran something over, but then it would have been on your paint too.

Sounds like the work of a bad car wash, they sprayed some acidic stuff on your wheels to clean them, then missed rinsing one off. One more reason why I hate car washes. You can either:

1. Get the rim refinished in the OEM color to match the rest
or
2. Get all of them rims freshly powdercoated to the color of your choice. The damage looks like it is only to the paint, so just getting it throughly cleaned (regular paint prep) and new paint should solve it.

Hope I helped. Good luck bro

This is what it was... I went to one two days before and must have just not looked down at it since then. I am very disappointed. But on to the next step, now I have to decide if I should go with a new color powdercoating. I have a Obsidian black coupe so I cant really think of anything that looks better than the stock, also thought about chrome but might be over the top. Time to do some searching. Thanks for the help.

Sorry for the bad luck.. I doubt any vandals would just try to mess up one of your wheels. Good to know on the wheel cleaners though!

...Decided to go with a Semi-Gloss black with the inner lip done in chrome or silver.
