hi, i just bought my car, i think i liked how the car came to me from the dealer, because i dont know how to wax i guess. i dawned my car, and waxed it with Meguire's Quik Wax with carnuba... anyways... my dealer said they'd get my car teflon coated for a good price, and it seems to do the same thing as crystal guard... can anyone fill me in on the procedures, aftereffects, differences of both....thanks

 

Unless someone has actually conducted tests on both Teflon and Crystal Guard, you will only receive personal opinions. My only experience from a Teflon coating was with my wifes new car, which already had the coating from the factory and I didn't see a separate charge for it on the sticker. It was several months from the date of the manufacturing to the time that we purchased it, so while the car was sitting on the dealer lot, although it was clean, the finish on the car was not smooth to the touch. I decided to do the same thing to her car as I did to my G35 and washed with Dawn, then used a claybar to remove the obvious impurities and applied Crystal Guard Quick. It took me 2 hours to wash, clay and apply Crystal Guard. It's so easy to do that I would find it hard to justify the high prices these shops charge to do it for you.

The protective results are very similar between the two. If you don't have time to detail your car, then by all means, have the dealer or a detail shop to do it, but end result will be nearly identical............given all things equal (same technique, same machinery, same person detailing, etc.)

i think i may end up just getting it Teflon coated.... its kind of hard for me, because I dont trust myself to do the Crystal guard... but i've heard the horror stories about the 'chop shop horrors' people get when leaving theyre cars at the dealer.... maybe I will get the clear bra too! =D yay! we shall see on the final pricing...

Beleive me, crystal guard is by far the easiest applicable protection for your car's paint that i've ever seen. Its not hard at all, the new CG quick formula literally sprays on while the car is wet, and then wiping it off. Its that simple. I dawned my car, used the clay bar, then applied crystal guard and you won't beleive that the car literally feels like glass now.

Just something to think about.

 

I'm also a recent Crystal Guard convert and I might not ever switch to anything else. Application is about as easy as washing your car and the shine is just great. My only complaint is that it doesn't really fill in scratches, so if you have scratch issues be sure to polish your paint prior to application of the CG quick. Your car is brand new, so you shouldn't have to worry about that.

icic... well, do they sell CG in any stores like Auto zone, Pep Boys, etc.? i really dont like the whole online buy thing, if i can avoid it...

 

You can only get it online as far as I know. The best stuff that you can get from the local auto store is probably NXT.
