u guys wax headlights, etc?

i was wondering if you guys waxed your headlights, tail lights and windows.
and also, is it safe to wax over the rubber strippings like the ones that surround the sunroof?
and last, wat's the easiest way to get the wax off the stock clear bra liner in front of the rear wheel.

thanks in advance

Re: u guys wax headlights, etc?

Yes, I wax my headlights and tailights. As far as the ClearBra in front of the rear wheels, I used a well aged toothbrush along with toothpicks to get the wax off the edges.
DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT get wax any where near rubber weatherstriping. It will not come off, plus in a couple of days it will turn white. I use 3M blue painters tape to tape off the areas around the windows just incase I seize/space. As far as the sunroof, I usually open it when applying wax near it and then close it to remove the wax. The best thing for windows IMO is RainX. Same thing applys (do not get it on weatherstripping/use tape). Hope this helps.

If you wipe off any wax that gets on the weather stripping immediately, you should be fine. Always keep a bottle of wax and grease remover in case it dires before you can wipe it off. Typically, autobody supply shops sell this, but I bet you can find it at the major chains!

Another note to this, if you do per chance get some wax on anything like that, wipe it off right away, that will help a lot.

I just bought some Stoner Invisible Glass and it works very well on glass. I haven't tried it on the headlights. Not sure if it meant for plastic...I gotta check.

A tip I'd like to pass on. Before waxing, I treat all of the rubber and flat black plastic parts with dressing. I use something from the Lexol people (called Vinylex, I think, in a blue bottle but any dressing should work). Put it on with a toothbrush. Let it sit a few minutes, then wipe it off with a rag. Then wax (all of this is done the same day). This way, if you get any wax on the rubber or plastic, it wipes off easily.

I use something called "Black Chrome" on the rubber. It removes wax and wipes off easily if you get it on the waxed surfaces. It brings the rubber to a dark black with a semi-gloss shine.

For the headlight and taillight covers, I use 3M plastic polish to remove any film and light scratches. It is easy to use and you'll notice a much clearer surface. The taillights become mirror-like.

Note that this polish is specified in a TSB concerning headlight covers.

Re: u guys wax headlights, etc?

I use Zaino on my clearbra, head lights (which have clear bra on them) , taillights and the black plastic areas around the widow. Never had any problems. I think it's because it's synthetic. When I used regular wax on my Pathfinder I got some on the black plastic door hand and it left a white residue. Never had that problem with Zaino.
