Clay Bars

are not all the same.

I have some Clay Magic and Mothers Clay bar in my garage. I had noticed some light overspray specs of paint over my car and decided to clay at least the portions of the car that were going to receive the clearbra today. I did it last night. This morning, I went out to the car to find it was still there. I tried some more with the mothers clay bar. Nothing. Pulled out the clay magic. What a difference. Picked up specs much faster. With the spray it stayed just as slippery, but pulled more inpurities out of the paint. Not sure if clay magic is still around, but I definitely will not be using the mother's clay bar anymore.

Re: Clay Bars

I've always found it at Autozone, but I don't think I've seen it at any other stores. I've had good results with it and have yet to try any other brand. I wonder if it will get this "protective" film adhesive off that a body shop was using the other week (?).

Re: Clay Bars

I bought mine some 4-5 years ago. I was at pep boys this weekend and they didn't have it there. Mothers was the only one they seemed to have and it was sold out. Clay Magic was actually the first clay bar that I ever saw on the market. I thought of it as gimmicky but gave it a shot. I had no idea what it was supposed to do back then and no idea how to use it. I thought it did nothing so I had put it back in the box and left it in the garage for a few years. Then I read an article about the stuff and found out what it actuially does and how it's used and to my surprise it actually did work. I bought the Mothers bar when I couldn't find the Clay Magic one. interestingly, on my 240sx, I had gotten some overspray on it and I couldn't find the mother's bar at the time and found the clay magic one. Never thought there was a difference until I decided to clay the G and found both. I was rather disappointed in the Mother's product considering other products they make have worked so well for me in the past.

www.calcarcover.com is a good place to get most of the clay magic car care products. Here's the address http://www.calcarcover.com/product.aspx?id=1286&cid=34

Clay Magic's Website
Please do not use a buffer, your only asking for swirl marks. Does anyone have feedback on Zaino's Claybar ? I know there other products are top notch.

Re: Clay Bars

I used Zaino's claybar last weekend and it worked just fine! The only other bar i've used is the Mother's bar w/ Meguier's quick detailing spray, but that was a long time ago so I can't really compare the two.

The Zaino bar says to use some diluted car wash (Z7), so that is much less expensive than using a detailing spray.

Re: Clay Bars

I use the Zaino claybar as I wash. Works fine but it's the only one that I've used so no basis for comparison. This clay magic sounds like a try.

Re: Clay Bars

Clay Magic is def better than Mother's! I used both and totally agree with ya! I can still get Clay magic at my local Pep Boys, but it is often sold out or I grab the last one! Sometimes I'll buy just the clay bars from detailing supply shops in my area! They make them in different grades so some remove more than others (some remove dirt, some will remove overspray).

Re: Clay Bars

I've used the zaino clay bar to remove:

1. Chewing gum from a rim
2. Bug Guts
3. Tar
4. Tree sap
5. Oxidation from a 3.5 year old SUV
6. Little red spots (don't know what they were, but they were ALL OVER the white Sequoia).

I'm a huge Zaino advocate! Their stuff really works!!!
