leather vs vinyl

Does anyone know exactly what parts of the interior are leather vs. vinyl? For instance, the side and back of the seats, the door inserts, the arm rest? I have 303 vinyl cleaner and lexol leather cleaner but I don't want to use the wrong product on the wrong surface.

Thanks

Plastic parts and handling precautions identified in 2004 G35 Coupe Service Manual, Vol 3:
1) Key page BL-163
2) Exterior BL-164
3) Interior BL-165

Re: leather vs vinyl

If I need to clean anything leather/vinyl questionable, I use water soaked sponge followed by 303 conditioner (conditions and UV protects leather and vinyl).

My seats look and feel like all leather, so they get the Lexol cleaner/conditioner alternated with 303 conditioner (since gives UV protection).

The door side panels look and feel like vinyl (don't ask me why not depicted that way above). That said, I've been using sponge and 303 conditioner on them since last Nov with no problems. Hope this helps.

Re: leather vs vinyl

I don't think any leather cleaner/conditioner will harm the vinyl parts of the interior, I always used saddle soap on my cars vinyl interiors, they held up great! There is a lot of leather in the G interior, you can tell by the feel, and also, if you push on it with your finger, if it shows "crows feet" it's leather! I think the sides of the seats are leather, the very back "pouch" seems to be vinyl.

Re: leather vs vinyl

I had this same problem this morning. Was cleaning the inside of my G (2000 miles) and couldn't figure out what was made of what myself. Now I know....thanks

*bump*

I'm curious to know what in the 2005 (sedan) is leather. Specifically, what parts of the seat sides are leather? Also, is the handle on the door leather? I can't really tell.

I use the Leatherique Pristine Clean and it says right on the bottle that it is designed to be used on Vinyl as well. It does a great job on the vinyl but it's a little bit more work than I care to do each time. Therefore I use the Leatherique Prestine Clean on the leather and 303 Aerospace Cleaner on the vinyl for regular cleanings. If you haven't tried the Leatherique Pristine Clean yet, I promise you'll never use Lexol again.

I have been using Zaino 9 and 10 on everything inside. It works quite well and takes the guessing out of detailing the interior.

Zaino's smell is the best (interior). Lexol gives a better shine, but it smells bad.

I use the Meguiar's gold class products... but again, what parts are leather, and what parts are vinyl?

I am pretty sure the seat surfaces are the only leather in the car (using the 'crow's feet' test)

The parts I examined and think are vinyl are:

Seat sides, seat backs, map pouch, center armrest, door panel inserts, door handles and headrests.

Does anyone have definitive info on this being the case correct?
