What to use to remove what I suspect is tree sap??

Last year I went with a Griot's kit, includes a very good buffer/cleaner/wax/pads along with a instructional vid. This system works very well keeping my cars looking like new with very little effort. Check it out at www.griotsgarage.com the cost of the kit is what you'd pay to have your Z detailed once and should last a lifetime.

I just used the Mother's Clay Bar kit to remove some tree sap from my OB sedan yesterday afternoon. (I park under a magnolia tree at night)

I had to do one side of the car at a time and turn it around half way through in order to keep the side I was working on in the shade, but the entire process took about half an hour, and there is no more evidence of tree sap.
