Scratch and chip touch up

Need advice on the touch up kit I just got this touch up kit called Plasti-Kote from Pep boys.

Here is a link to some info in this http://www.brandsport.com/plik-4503.html#Price

Has anyone used it? How were the results?
I have a number of scratches around the car and some minor chips in the hood I am planning to fix. I have already brought the touch paint. I just want to make sure if I cover my basis before proceeding.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Scratch and chip touch up

ive used it to repair a 3-foot long key mark that ran across my driver side. i did my research and found out plasti-kote's kit was the most effective and complete, especially the clearcoat they provide. result: i cannot see my key mark anymore unless i kneel down and try to look for it. the kit saved me from a $900 repaint

be careful and take your time, dont go outside of the chips (unless you have a blob remover) and for the scratches something like scratch-x or gs-27 scratch remover might work better than just touch up. go to www.autopia.com and run some searches, plenty of detailers there to give tips.

Re: Scratch and chip touch up

Thanks
I am worried about using the sand paper that comes with it to smooth the touch up. How will this affect the original paint.
Any experience with that or is it worth the pain to go with the blob remover from Langka. I have to get that online only.
thanks

Re: Scratch and chip touch up

iafzal: i used the sandpaper to even out the paint but ended up having to use the blob remover anyway. excess paint looks horrible and i only wanted it to fill in the cracks. the sandpaper is fine as long as you always use the polish provided, but it will probably still leave micro-scratches. after sanding around mine i had a long, faded look along the scratch (hard to notice, has to be a particular lighting angle) - use scratch remover or more polish (without sanding) to remove this

You probably wont be sanding away the original paint, just the clearcoat which you reapply afterward. i also used blob remover for the clearcoat, so i pretty much used that the most. it would probably be a good investment, just in case you mess up you can take the paint off much more easily anyway

Mothers and Langka

Mother's has a retail distribution agreement with Langka.

The Mother's Paint Chip Repair kit is basically repackaged Langka.

Check www.langka.com for info on Langka.

I've used it sucessfully on black and silver cars. For difficult chips, it can take a few tries to get it right, but it's pretty much fool-proof, whereas you mess things up more with sandpaper if you're not careful.

Re: Langka Tip

I agree it can take a few tries with Langka before get better with it, but the good feature is you can't really mess up anything in your multiply tries.

The one thing I have found helps with the "it just keeps removing all the touch up paint I applied" problem is to let the paint dry for longer. I've let the touch paint dry for a couple of days or even a week, before applying Langka. That helps avoid the problem of removing all of your touch up, along with the excess.

Re: Langka Tip

where do you guys buy langka from?
Any auto shop I can get it instead from the internet.

I have tried Pepboys, autozone, Kragen and Walmart but no luck.

I have also tried the Mother's version but that seems to be missing too.
Any advice?
I am in the northern CA area.
Thanks

Re: Langka Tip

if you cannot find the mother's repackaged kit, then the only way to get it would be online
